British Airways reduces (again) requirements for Silver status in Executive Club

I have never hidden the fact that Among the three aviation alliances I have a fondness for the oneWorld. The reason is simple: it is the one that boasts within it some of the world's best airlines, starting with number one Qatar via Japan Airlines, Qantas and British Airways, to name a few. In addition, the currency Avios from the Executive Club program is one of those with the most possible uses in the airline landscape.
British Airways has reduced the qualifying points (called Tier Points) required to achieve Silver status in the Executive Club loyalty program, which is equivalent to Oneworld Sapphire status when traveling with other alliance airlines. The point, however, is that the Silver level in BA is the most valuable of many other airlines' intermediate statuses: in addition to giving classic benefits such as check-in and priority, it allows passengers to have access to the business lounges of all the airlines in the same alliance.
How to become Silver in British Airways
To obtain the (virtual) card it is necessary to obtain only 300 Tier points or fly 25 routes within a year. Calculating how many Tier points you earn is super easy since the amount varies depending on two factors: flight length and class of travel. For example, two round-trip flights from Catania to London are enough to renew the Silver level. in business class, flights that can often be found for a few hundred euros.
N.B. It is good to remember that Tier points are not to be confused with Avios points. The former have value only for obtaining status, and they reset to zero each year. The latter are the currency you use to redeem award flights. And even then the earning of Avios points varies depending on the route and class of travel.
Unfortunately, this option only applies to those who already have Silver status and are attempting to renew for another year, so it does not apply to those who do not have the status at this time.
The benefits of the Silver level
This level, as I said, is in my opinion the best intermediate status of all the alliances precisely because of the benefits it gives to owners and the strength of the British Airways brand.
- Worldwide lounge access whenever you fly with British Airways or airline partners. Even when flying to the U.S. on American Airlines.
- Access to business class check-in counters and priority boarding worldwide, regardless of the class of travel in which you fly.
- Free seat choice on British Airways flights from the time of booking for all passengers within your reservation (excluding seats in the emergency exit row on long-haul flights)
- A minimum checked baggage allowance of two pieces in Economy Class for all passengers within your reservation (except for Basic fares, carry-on baggage only)
- A 32kg checked baggage allowance, regardless of class of travel, for all passengers within your reservation
- A direct line to dedicated customer support staff in case you need to contact British Airways
In conclusion
Given theLondon Heathrow Airmageddon I expect more initiatives between now and the end of the year to protect not only Silver customers, but everyone else as well. In fact, this summer we have seen the company stop ticket sales, cancel flights, and tell passengers to stay home. So many will have set their sights on flying with other carriers and will surely fail to renew their status.
