Last week we wrote that by mid-December in Terminal 1, i.e. the new area of Rome Fiumicino airport., the new Plaza Premium Lounge will open.
Also due to open by the end of the year was ITA's new lounge, but unfortunately, this will not be the case. The new home of ITA Airways, what should be the main lounge for passengers of the Italian flag carrier, will not open by the end of the year as planned.
According to what we have learned, Work on the new lounge will not be completed until the end of winter, with the opening scheduled for late February.
Passengers on ITA Airways' Schengen flights will then have to go through the entire terminal to reach the old Alitalia House in Piazza Venezia which was reopened last summer precisely as a buffer solution.
I have been to this lounge several times, most recently in the past few days For the first flight of the A220 and I must say that the staff and service are really top-notch. Unfortunately, however, ITA has not yet updated the menu to include hot items, which are absent in all lounges in Rome and Milan ,

The other companies have long since returned to full service and also eliminated buffet retentions with passengers once again able to help themselves.
Persnalmente I like the idea of the served buffet, only it would be time to review hot options and not the usual cold buffet from breakfast to dinner.
To date also lounges remain unusable if one flies Skyteam and vice versa lounges of other carriers are inaccessible (barring informal benevolence) when showing status in ITA Airways' Volare program.
