According to a survey conducted by SWG on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), almost 80% of the respondents have never been on a cruise, and 43% expressed their intention to try it in the next two years.
Cruising is popular among all age groups, but people over the age of 35 are especially eager to board. Geographically, new cruise passengers are mainly from Northern Italy (47%), followed by the South and Islands (32%) and then Central Italy (21%).
Among Italian travelers surveyed, cruise newbies, when they think of the vacations imagine mainly relaxation and tranquility (59%), art and culture (42%), nature (38%), tradition, folklore, customs and traditions (31%), and food and wine (30%). When questioned about how they imagine the ideal cruise, it is crucial for future cruise passengers that the activities are interesting even for young children (48%), that the ship is made in Italy (31%) and luxurious (25%).

"Our new ships, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, offer Italian guests a never-before-seen choice to best create their ideal vacation. We look forward to seeing both ships sail from Italian ports next summer and fall."
For the first time in NCL's history, in summer 2023, two of its newest ships will sail to the Mediterranean from Italian ports. Norwegian Prima will depart from Civitavecchia for 9-day cruises to the Western Mediterranean, while Norwegian Viva will offer a selection of 8- to 10-day cruises to the Mediterranean's most desirable destinations from Civitavecchia and Trieste.
