For years, this terminal hosted the British airline's operations, and the JFK/LHR route has always been a shuttle of sorts, with peaks of more than 10 flights a day, an era also operated by Concorde.
Yesterday morning, the first British Airways flight took off from Terminal 8, and until next November 30, passengers will have to pay close attention to the departure terminal, otherwise they will be forced to take Airtrain to move from the 7th to the 8th or vice versa.
A very important change
The most inconvenient thing, for those who often travel with British Airways or American Airlines, has always been the difficulty moving between the two terminals when having connecting flights. AA and BA are part of the OneWorld alliance, and because of this, very often, transit passengers were forced not only to pick up their luggage arriving from London, but also to have to move to a different terminal to continue their journey.
Yesterday, Nov. 18, the first flight took off from T8, while on Nov. 30 there will be the last activity from T7 by a British Airways livery aircraft.
From Dec. 1, the terminal change issue will be a thing of the past. Instead, the requirement to retrieve baggage to check in again will remain for passengers arriving from London.
From the beginning of next month, the range of lounges available to passengers will also grow and the offerings of those currently present will be renewed. Premium passengers and Gold level holders in the Executive Club will have Access to the beautiful American Airlines Flagship Lounge.
The most interesting novelty will be the transformation of Flagship First Dining into a champagne bar, also open to BA passengers (today it was a restaurant accessible only to first-class passengers of the American airline).
Changes will be at all levels. New check-in desks, new gates dedicated to London-bound passengers, and a total reorganization of lounges to accommodate up to 1,000 passengers at once.
In conclusion
Starting Dec. 1, 2022, all British Airways flights will take off and land at JFK Terminal 8, this momentous change will make life easier for all passengers who have flights connecting with British and American.. The abandonment of T7, then, will lead to the total demolition of the facility. Once the areas are cleared, construction will begin on the new T6, which will be JetBlue's new home starting in 2026.
