Starting today, November 25, the Brazil will reintroduce the requirement for passengers and crew to wear face masks on board aircraft.
Not only is Brazil the first government to reinstate the requirement that had disappeared from companies in recent months (Italy was along with Germany one of the last nations to remove this requirement), but the South American nation had also been the last to remove it just last August.
It is good to remember that there are two regulators in the rules in these cases: the nation to which the flight is headed and the carrier.
In this case, for example, an ITA Airways flight bound for Sao Paulo, as of today requires passengers to wear masks on board. In contrast on the return flight, once passengers board, they will be able to remove the masks, as the carrier and Italy do not require them.
Personally I am surprised by this decision of the Brasilia government, by now (China aside) all countries have reopened their borders. In Japan there is still an obligation to wear them indoors, but it is a rarity and in any case it is not mandatory on board planes even to the Rising Sun.
Personally I think it should be allowed freedom of choice, I for example wear it if I travel in economy and I am too close to other passengers, while in business class where you have even 2 m distance with other passengers, I also feel safe because the air on board is super filtered.
