Ryanair has announced the reinstatement of the Trapani-Marsala/Naples route, with four weekly flights starting Dec. 15. An announcement that comes after the Council of State upheld the decision of the Regional Administrative Tribunal finding that the ministerial decree that had imposed territorial continuity routes to/from Trapani-Marsala airport violated the principles of European sector regulations.
Ryanair's Director of Route Development, Ray Kelliher, said, "As the No. 1 airline in Europe and Italy, Ryanair is pleased to reinstate this essential service between Trapani-Marsala and Naples as part of its winter '22 operations in Italy, providing our customers with a vital connection for work and study purposes while offering more vacation choices."
Ryanair confirms the extension of the route again next summer, underscoring the carrier's continued growth and commitment to the Airport and the Region.
"Ryanair's decision to launch a new Trapani-Marsala/Naples route, following the Council of State's decision, reaffirms the unnecessary territorial continuity allocation of the route, which has cost Italian taxpayers millions of euros a year, as well as preventing passengers from flying at the lowest fares in Europe."
Ryanair is calling on the Italian government to reinvest territorial continuity funds in the abolition of the €6.50 "tourism tax," which will support all airports and regions in Italy to ensure increased traffic and, at the same time, the long-term continuity of connections that are an integral part of Italian connectivity, such as this new Trapani-Marsala to Naples route, as well as allowing airlines to offer the best value for money to travelers.
