New American Express cardholders may not know That, until recently, Being a Platinum cardholder also brought with it Jade status in the loyalty program of the ultra luxury chain Shangri-La. The special feature of this card was to pave the way for a fast track giving Gold status in Singapore Airlines.
I became a Gold Star Alliance precisely by taking advantage of this facilitated path, and I must say that it was very fortunate.
This chain is mainly in Asia; in Europe it is famous for being the hotel inside The Shard, London's tallest skyscraper. Then there is a hotel in Paris and one in Istanbul. So it is not very easy to be able to frequent these facilities, given also the continuing border closures in China.
Last year the loyalty program was completely revised, and all the status holders had been renewed at the ex officio level. This year things have not changed much, certainly the Southeast has reopened its borders but the Chinese market is still off limits, so management decided to give a new chance to renew the card by reducing the requirements, which had already been halved from normal.
All it takes to renew the Jade level is a coffee
These days, subscribers in possession of the Jade level received an email with the various possible actions to be taken in order to renew the status:
We have loved having you as a Jade member, which is why we are introducing you to an easy way to maintain your status. Stay a qualifying night or spend a qualifying experience, whether it's a cup of coffee or a party at one of our restaurants and bars, before December 15, 2022 to renew your Jade status for another year.
If, like me, you are still a Jade status holder, you then need only go for a cocktail at one of the bars in the Shangri-La hotels to renew your status.
