"We hope he stays in America." I had said this at the exact moment when Hilton Honors had announced, two years ago, the change to the benefits of members of the hotel chain's loyalty program. Today, unfortunately, it must be noted that as of January 1 this so-called "trial" is leaving the U.S. and landing in Mexico and Europe.
How the voucher works instead of breakfast
The Honors Program provides that all members holding the Gold level, free of charge and included in the American Express Platinum fee or Diamond may enjoy of complimentary continental breakfast when they stay in the group's hotels. In many articles we have explained about how this benefit can be worth up to 50€ a day when traveling around the world. Due to the status all owners and a companion, but in my experience also any children, can enjoy free breakfast at no extra charge in the group's hotels that do not include breakfast in the basic rate, namely:

- Conrad
- Curio
- DoubleTree
- Hilton
- Hilton Garden Inn
- LXR
- Motto
- Tapestry Collection
- Waldorf Astoria
For two years, the voucher has been standard only in the U.S. even though I have Had a chance to "undergo it" in Canada as well., the guests receive a daily credit to use in F&B facilities Of hotels. It can then be used to pay for breakfast, room service, dinner or a cocktail. The value of the voucher changes depending on the facility and the number of guests.
P.S. If you stay in areas where the cost of living is higher such as in the cities of Boston, Chicago, District of Columbia, Key West, Key Largo, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles County and In Hawaii you will enjoy an increased credit of 3$
It is important to understand that these vouchers cannot be combined, so it is not possible to use those not used in the previous days. Moreover, the maximum discount is the one provided for only the two guests, even if there are other guests in the room.
Now also outside the U.S.
Free daily Hilton Honors food and beverage credit is available to Gold and Diamond members at all Hilton luxury, full-service and lifestyle properties, as well as at all Hilton Garden Inn hotels in the U.S. and Motto by Hilton globally, replacing the free continental credit MyWay breakfast benefit.
At present, therefore, the experiment only affects hotels in the Motto chain, which in Europe means only one facility in the Netherlands, to be precise the Motto by Hilton Rotterdam Blaak. Guests who go to this facility will receive An F&B credit of EUR 15 per night.
Final considerations
Free breakfast is one of my favorite benefits of Hilton Honor Gold status, not the only one, but certainly the one with the greatest economic weight in terms of savings. The hope is that it does not become a Trojan horse and that within a few years experimentation will become a fact of life. The only difference I currently see between the U.S. and the rest of the world is that in the U.S. breakfast in these hotels is no longer a buffet, but a la carte service.
In the rest of the world, however, it is still the buffet that is the star of breakfast; even in brand-new hotels everything has been designed in a buffet key. We will see what happens in the coming years.
