The Airport of Milan Bergamo reached and exceeded yesterday, Wednesday, December 28, 2022, the share of 13 million passengers.
A milestone repeated three years after the first time and representing the second highest passenger traffic performance in the airport's history, following the all-time high recorded in 2019 with 13,850,000. With the daily average for the month of December, 2022 ends with a final balance representing 95% of the passenger traffic generated before the pandemic.
A consistent recovery, which began in March and consolidated over the summer months to reach the positive balance in the last quarter of the year.
Recovery made possible, at the level of service organization, by the choice made by SACBO to pursue the airport infrastructure upgrading programs in the 2020-2021 biennium, with the completion of the expansion works to the west of the air terminal, and by the choice made at the beginning of the year to strengthen employment levels within the operator's operational structure after preserving them through social shock absorbers during the health emergency period.
Supporting the recovery are the 19 airlines already present at the airport and the 7 that were added during the year for a total of 26 carriers connecting 140 destinations in 40 countries.
The gradual expansion of the network has been marked by the introduction of long-haul flights, such as the one with Sharjah (UAE) to which will be added Dubai from March 10, 2023, and Amritsar (India), and from the resumption of connection with Rome Fiumicino, with the prospect of adding more destinations during 2023.
