Last December, the loyalty program of the Hellenic airline Aegean launched a promotion to celebrate the 20th birthday of miles+bonus. The great thing about this promotion is that it involved all registered promo members and not just those who were doing
Half a billion points up for grabs
To celebrate this important event, a whopping half a billion loyalty program points were up for grabs. Points that ended up in the accounts of about 150 thousand miles+bonus members who had activated the promotion.
Most users have seen a few thousand points credited. I, for example, received 1,000 and now have 6,000 from promotions alone. I have enough points to redeem an award flight with the Star Alliance company without ever having flown with them or spent a euro or credited a flight to my M+B card.
However, there are 4 lucky people who received 1M or 2M points, enough to redeem a few dozen award tickets in business class on long-haul Aegean and alliance partner carriers such as Lufthansa, United and Singapore Airlines.
In conclusion
A nice gesture from the Greek company. Of course, I wish I was in the lucky 4 who found themselves with a 7-digit balance overnight. Aegean always proves to be very active and attentive to its loyalty program members.
