We have been following the developments of ITA Airways' new lounge at Terminal 1 ever since, in June 2022, the reopening of Terminal 1 had left the elite travelers from the national airline deprived of a lounge to wait for their flight.
If before the terminal restyling Alitalia had two lounges at in Pier A, now ITA Airways is left with only one lounge located in the inconvenient "middle ground," that is, in the gates away from the new T1 opened last summer.

The new lounge
Huge panels have been popping up for the past few days over the promenade of stores connecting the control area to the new terminal. As we anticipated, ITA's new lounge and also the new Premium Plaza will be located in this very area of the Roman airport.
Unfortunately, work is slow for both of these openings. ITA Airways' was initially scheduled to open by the end of 2022, then in October ITA sources had anticipated us a delay With the opening moved to February. Judging from the space situation, I have a feeling that this new deadline will be moved again. We tried to ask ITA for details and updates but. there is currently no opening forecast.
Judging from the outside, however, i.e., the extent of the mega banner over the store area the lounge, it will be really big. Given the location, it is evident that it will not (unfortunately) overlook the runway but will be passerby view, like a café in an Italian piazza.
Also delayed is the work of the seconda lounge Plaza Premium which was supposed to open in mid-December and instead will open no earlier than spring.
The strategic location in the shopping area will make these two lounges much more convenient for passengers in Terminal 1 than To the current former home of Alitalia. To be happy will be mostly American Express Platinum holders who, thanks to the Plaza Premium Will have a much better lounge than the First View where to wait for the flight.
