Good news from Malpensa, especially for those who usually frequent the area of Pier B the one of non-Schengen flights, a new lounge will open in the coming days/weeks.
The old Alitalia house
The lounge will take the place of the old Alitalia house "Piazza san Babila" closed by the outbreak of the pandemic and never reopened by ITA Airways. The lounge was a copy of the one in Fiumicino, and as with the main one in Rome it also featured the iconic pizza oven as in the current lounge at Fiumicino temrinal 3.
In these three years, the lounge, which Is located right attached to the Emirates lounge, has always remained closed. Slowly over the months the traces of Alitalia disappeared while waiting for a new owner.
The new Premium Lounge
There is currently no information on the opening date, but judging from what can be seen from the outside, it should be a short time away.
There is already all the signage inside the terminal, the window decals and everything. Actually, it would be better to say that they simply cleaned up what was there, removed the ITA glassaphones and reconnected the meters
Today even the TV inside was on, the furniture in order and everything neat and tidy. Unfortunately, it will always be SEA who will manage it, like the other independent lounges at Linate and Malpensa. I say unfortunately because the hope that Plaza Premium or perhaps a Centurion Lounge would point to Malpensa could make the wait inside this terminal better.
I have no idea whether this opening will coincide with the closing of the Montale Hall, I hope not, because from memory this lounge was definitely smaller than the Montale, probable that given the large number of carriers and passengers to be served SEA decided to double the space in view of the summer season.
In conclusion
The sale of ITA Airways to Lufthansa Will immediately give passengers access to ITA's only flight from Malpensa at the Lufthansa Lounge, which is not located in Pier B, but would still be convenient for passengers on the flight to JFK to use.
