American Express opens a Centurion Lounge ... in midtown Manhattan

The news has been circulating on all major American sites for a few days now, American Express will open a Centurion Lounge in the middle of downtown New York City.

Centurion lounges in airports are among the most beautiful in the world, in Europe unfortunately we are unlucky since we have some only one at London Terminal 3. In the United States there are many and one more beautiful than the other, but this news is bound to change the rules of the game again.

San Francisco airport's Centurion Lounge has reopened: now bigger and better looking

This will be by far the tallest Centurion Lounge in the world since it will be opened inside the One Wanderbild skyscraper. It will be on the 55th floor of the building. This new space will be in midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks from Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park. Centurion New York is scheduled to open in March 2023.

In addition to the Centurion Club, the building has an exciting observation deck that opened in 2021. The so-called Summit One Vanderbilt that has become one of the most popular vantage points in New York City.

Who will be able to enter this Centurion Lounge

Reservations are expected to open in late February and unlike airport lounges it seems that the rules of access will be decidedly different. It will be staffed by specially trained concierges who will be able to help cardholders with any personal requests ranging from restaurant reservations to finding the most exclusive seats on Broadway.

The great thing is that all American Express cardholders will be able to access the Centurion New York, just make an advance reservation made through Resy, as if it were a simple restaurant.

What the new Centurion will offer

The Centurion lounge will be a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple for all owners, a true restaurant curated by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud, best known for his eponymous restaurant Daniel, who will curate a casual and refined menu for Centurion New York. Several of this chef's restaurants are on the list of restaurants Where cashback from platinum holders can be spent.

It is not yet known whether use of the services will be free of charge and whether there will be different treatment depending on the card held. Centurion Card holders will receive priority access and wider seat availability.

The space will be curated by Yabu Pushelberg Studio, while the selection of artworks on the walls will be curated by Artsy, and guests will be able, by logging on to the site, to buy the works on display.Everything has been taken care of in the utmost detail, even the scent of the rooms has been designed just for this lounge.

In conclusion

Before making a judgment, let's wait to see what it will offer and whether, for example, there will be different treatment between cards issued in the US and those in the rest of the world. Today, for example, a U.S. American Express Platinum user can bring a companion into the lounge for free only if he or she has spent at least 75k $ in the previous year.

What is certain is that for us Europeans, this competition being unleashed among the various banking groups can only bring benefits. All that remains now is to wait and see what happens.
