Just in the past few days I wrote about how the airlines are coming to terms with the loss of millions of users cause status expiration, and how the most imaginative campaigns are underway to whet the appetite of these frequent flyers in an effort to succeed in getting them back on board, But without giving anything away anymore.

Today I'm talking about the Skywards loyalty program, if you've seen our ITA vs. Emirates comparison you will know that my gold status, obtained through a status match campaign, is due next Feb. 28.
Today I received the second offer to maintain my status if the first one allowed me to renew my card by flying fewer miles than I needed, This one, on the other hand, is cheap: pay and stay Gold for 12 more months.
Paid status
The offer is not exactly one you can't refuse, for 1050 $, in exchange €976, I am being sold a renewal for another 12 months with nothing else in return. Neither points nor any other special benefits.
Why I don't join the offer
The reason is simple, I don't plan to fly in economy with Emirates, status changes the experience especially when flying on the ground floor of the A380 certainly not when traveling upstairs. Even if that were the case the 1000€ required is not worth the potential benefits. If Emirates had made a package similar to the one offered with the Skywards+ subscription I might have even thought about it, But so it doesn't really make sense and so I resign myself to going down to the silver level, a prelude to returning to the basic level.
In conclusion
EK is also trying to maximize and cash in fresh money; it is not the first company to make this kind of offer and it will not be the last, I personally dare to say that you always have to do the math right, such as when there are bids for selling points.
