As we have repeatedly had occasion to say, buy points is a "smart" way to pay for a ticket by spending less than you would pay for the same ticket in cash. To do so, however, one must take advantage of a bonus that will lower the final expense.
Bonus + Monthly Offers
Each month we recount the various Offers that discount award tickets on board Air France and KLM. It is often possible, thanks to these offers to book award tickets in business class to the U.S. at less than 40k points, we saw tickets for the Caribbean at 34k points plus tax.
Here's how the combination of bonus points + discounted tickets can lead to significant financial savings, although it is still possible to take a business ticket to the U.S., from Italy starting at 55k points, or the brand new premium economy from KLM at exactly half, or 22500 points per ticket.
100% of bonus points
Right now there is an offer that allows you to get 100% of the bonus points compared to those bought. This means that buying minimum points will yield as many points, effectively halving the cost of the purchase.
Until February 27, it will be possible to get a rich bonus starting from a minimum of 24k points, up to a maximum of 300k points. Of course to book a seat in La Premiere you need a minimum of 220k points each way ( and you also have to be Platinum Flying Blue), but for everything else this bonus can be a great way to maximize the result with the least expense.
Pros and cons of buying points
As with all point collections, there are pros and cons to this activity. The pro is that you will spend less compared to the final expenditure And that the ticket will be totally flexible, FB applies a penalty of 50€ in case of ticket cancellation, but all points will be returned. Also, in the unfortunate situation FB points do not expire until after 24 months of inactivity, any flight will suffice also with Transavia to renew them.
The con is that for the expense you will not earn FB points and XP points for status, but for an occasional trip this is absolutely not a problem considering that if you travel in business you still get all SkyPriority privileges, even with an award ticket.
Accumulate free FB points in Italy
For business expenses I use my card Mooncard that gives me 1.5 points for every euro I spend with my company. It is a new product for the Italian market, but thanks to spending on all kinds of categories, including gasoline and taxes, it allows me to accumulate almost three times as many points as I earn using my American Express cards.
Of course, it is always possible Transfer accumulated membership points into FB points for free simply with three clicks directly from the dedicated portal for Amex customers.
