They are increasingly in the final throes of the initiatives put in place by the various global companies To help frequent flyers to maintain status during the covid period and travel restrictions. As we have seen in every respect, we are now back to pre-pandemic levels (if not beyond).
Virgin Atlantic and SkyTeam
While until a few months ago the status in the British airline's frequent-flyer scheme was of little use, it may now become attractive, as by spring the carrier founded by Sir Richard Branson Will enter as a full member of the SkyTeam alliance. Thus, having status in this company opens doors to the services of all other operators from Air France to Vietnam Airlines, from Saudia to Aerolinas Argentinas.
Whereas until now the relationship was only close with Delta, which is partnered at 49% with VS and Air France/KLM.
It's back to the old Flying Club requirements
At this time I hold Silver status in this program, although. I have never even believed a flight of those I have made aboard Virgin Atlantic aircraft. I obtained the status in 2021 thanks to a status match offer and has since been renewed for me ex officio until next March. So today I received the email informing me that I still have a few months to renew it in a facilitated manner before the requirements go back to the normal level.
It is great to see so many of our members traveling again. We want to remind you that Tier Point thresholds will return to normal as of April 1.
The number of Tier Points needed to remain Silver depends on the anniversary of program enrollment:
- If your end date of enrollment is before April 1, 2023, you need 300 Tier Points to renew your Silver
- If the expiration date is April 1, 2023 or later, you will need 400 Tier Points to renew your status
There is, however, a last-minute possibility Also to jump toward the gold-colored tile: booking and flying by March 31, 2023, it will be enough to earn 800 Tier Points. After April 1, 2023, 1,000 Tier Points will be needed to reach Gold status, which is the same pre-pandemic requirement.
In conclusion
As far as I am concerned, this status was one of those sacrificed And that I was no longer interested in it. With joining Sky Team and the fact that VS doesn't fly in Italy it really makes little sense to me. On the contrary if you have this status it might be interesting to keep it just in terms of alliance, although not being a partner company of American Express in Italy it will not be easy to move points toward this program.
