La airline Lufthansa returns to operations with the iconic A380s, the latest in the list of carriers that have resumed operations with the Airbus' own giant of the skies. If the announcement of the return of the A380s to flight. is dated June 2022, now the German Group has unveiled the first destinations with the placement of the first two aircraft.
Who flies both 747/8 and A380
If before the pandemic there were several companies flying both jumbos, namely Boeing 747s and A380, today there are only three: Lufthansa, Asiana and Korean Airlines.
Thai Airways said goodbye in one fell swoop to both models, planes that are now parked on an outside runway at Bangkok airport waiting to be dismantled. British Airways said goodbye to 747s he had in the fleet and today flies only the A380. Air France had long since said goodbye to the 747s and with the pandemic also retired the A380s.
Routes to Boston and New York
Lufthansa will operate A380s from Munich Airport, the airline's second German hub, to Boston and New York.
The date to mark on the calendar, then, is June 1, when Lufthansa will resume its regular Airbus A380 operations after a three-year hiatus. Daily flights from Munich to Boston will be operated by flight LH424. From July 4, when States celebrate Independence Day, another A380 with flight number LH410 will take off daily for New York Jfk.
Why Munich Airport
A double signal from LH: the first is the large capacity available on transatlantic flights which responds to very strong demand for the summer. This also expands the airline's supply of Business and First Class seats from its southern base.
The second signal, however, is the prominent role the German Group reserves for Munich. The Bavarian airport, in fact, is not seen as a Frankfurt's "poor" brother, indeed. Lufthansa's latest moves, with the launch of the new regional company City Airlines - Which will be based right in Munich - and positioning of the A380s testify to the strong investment of the carrier led by the ceo, Carsten Spohr.
With 509 seats, the A380 offers the possibility of To fly more than 200 more passengers than the Airbus A340-600 currently flying the Munich-New York route.
In total, the A380 offers four travel classes: eight seats in first class, 78 seats in business class, 52 seats in premium economy and 371 seats in economy. The main floor is all dedicated to economy class passengers, with a 3-4-3 configuration, while the front accommodates premium economy seats, the same ones that are present on 747/8 the other giant of the skies.
The upper floor houses the 8 first class seats, 13 rows of business class seats with the old cabin configured 2-2-2 and at the back a small economy cabin 2-4-2, by far the seats to choose if you are traveling economy class. Lufthansa recently announced the arrival of new first class cabins, business and restyling of the other classes as well, the A380, however, will not receive Allegris cabins, cabins that will instead Will be installed aboard the 747/8
By the end of 2023, a total of four aircraft A380 will again be operated by Monaco.
