Delta estimates it takes an average passenger 22 years, flying with one airline, to reach 1M miles flown. That's why today the American airline wanted to celebrate Todd O. the first, and only, passenger who flew a whopping 14 million miles.

What is even more striking is that Todd took less than 18 months to go from the 13 million mark to the 14 million mark Of miles flown. "The only thing I do is sit in a seat!" is what he said at the Zurich airport during the surprise party the alliance company Skyteam threw for him in the lounge.
The flight crew was even sent an ACARS message. (Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System), normally reserved for operational updates, from Delta's operations and customer center with a message to a personalized ad to celebrate Todd's 14 million milestone. "Please take a moment to ask the crew to recognize his achievement and wish him a happy birthday... On behalf of Delta OCC, it has been an honor to help [Todd] reach this milestone."

When his plane landed at JFK, Delta was ready to celebrate here as well. He was taken to customs by Delta's elite services, then taken to the Delta Sky Club where he was greeted with more birthday wishes, congratulations and appreciation.
Delta's loyalty program divides its members into various levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold. Delta SkyMiles also offers elite Medallion status for life. One million miles gives Silver Medallion status for life, while six million miles brings Diamond Medallion status for life. The fact is, however, that it is not easy to fly that much and with only one airline (and Skyteam partners).
Of course one wonders what Todd does for a living, how much he spends on his co-branded cards, and especially why he travels so much, because not even an airline pilot flies 1M miles in less than 24 months.
Million Miler
There are several loyalty programs that reward "million milers" and each has its own rules. Delta allows miles earned to be counted even when spending with co-branded credit cards, United on the other hand only counts miles actually flown and here the record man is Tom Stuker who is over 20M miles.
The celebrations are also different. For example. In ANA's lounge at Haneda Airport. there is a display case that holds the personalized license plates of five frequent flyers of the Japanese company.
