If you add up the options that Hilton and Marriott offer in Manhattan, likely to exceed more than 200 facilities. From the most luxurious such as St. Regis, Ritz Carlton, Conrad to the lowest-cost solutions, which for the current market are still rooms hardly under $200 per night, excluding taxes.

This Hilton Fashion District is in the middle in both price and category.

Reservation

I visited this hotel in the last week of October and the prices at New York were spiking well above pre-pandemic levels.

Using the points cost 80 thousand Hilton Honors, a lot especially when I think. With 110 thousand points you can stay in the Maldives and not in just another facility. The room price was, excluding taxes 404$ to which must be added the NY state tax of 35.92$, occupancy tax of 23.78$, Javits Center state tax 1.5$ and finally the NYC occupancy tax of 2.00$. The first two are as a percentage of room cost, the last two fixed per night/room.

A total for one night of 468$, I'll say it now this hotel is NOT worth this amount of money and personally I would aim at these prices at some Airbnb or if you want to stay in hotels on cheaper signs, or being able to spend something more expensive but definitely offering more.

Needless to say, I made the reservation through the app to take points and benefits and take advantage of the rich fall bonuses, unfortunately being a weekend stay no 2000 extra points.

Location

The hotel is located in the middle of the fashion district, in the heart of midtown. A strategic location for moving to northern Manhattan (Times Square/Central park) or the south (Chelsea and Nomad), you can easily walk to the Highline and admire the Vessel, from the outside because it continues to be closed to prevent suicides.

The subway is about a 5-minute walk away: it is the 23rd or 28th station depending on which direction you need to go. Around it of course dozens of clubs, restaurants, art galleries and much more

Halloween mood at check-in

Just entered I was greeted by a hotel in full Halloween mood, the Americans in this are really number one. They always manage to monetize any event and impose the fashion on everyone else as well. Quoting Cassano we can only say Chapeau.

Paperwork took a few minutes, brief explanation for The use of 18$ of vouchers that replace the free breakfast And off to the room.

The hotel

It's the classic New York Hilton hotel, with just that extra bit of soul, or maybe it was all about the Halloween-themed make-up and the fake cobwebs hid the real ones.

My room was the classic Hilton room, but with that extra bit of style in homage to the neighborhood that houses this hotel.

The homage is the dark colors, which make the room look a tad less old to a superficial view.

Queen bed and standard equipment, in short there is what you would expect from a hotel in this category, including coffee maker.

The bathroom is also what it is, a toilet.

Lifting the hotel's rating are two elements. What's on the rooftop and what's below ground. The rooftop sandbar and the Chelsea (table+stage).

The rooftop

The terrace was a real discovery, of course Doesn't have a spectacular view like the Conrad Downtown, but still offers a nice view of several iconic Manhattan buildings-from the Empire to the new Edge.

It's a setting reminiscent of beach bars, colors reminiscent of the flag of Greece and chiringuito decor, it's a great location to relax before heading out at night. Only flaw is not in Hilton management, this means that you will not be able to charge fees on the room and therefore consumptions are not part of the credit and do not score Hilton points.

Here is the view of Empire, day and night, and the area where the most skyscrapers have sprouted in recent years, including The Edge the new vantage point of New York City.

Chelsea Table+Stage

The basement also offers something different, namely a restaurant with a stage where live music nights, stand-up comedy, and many other events are done.

It's just too bad I had to go out to dinner with friends otherwise I would have tried to eat and enjoy the evening of music without having to walk around Manhattan.

Breakfast

The breakfast room is tiny, and it is located on the side opposite the reception. Of course breakfast in American hotels is almost never memorable, but having 18$ to spend and being able to spend it only here, I had no other choice.

As you can see from the menu with the credit for 15$ who have gold members and 18$ who have platinum members there is no breakfast, unless you want to make do with a cappuccino, a juice and nothing to eat.

I tried the sweet breakfast, which was French toast and a glass of OJ.

As you can see from the bill, and as you should always remember in the U.S., prices are exclusive of tax. In the end, I spent just under 22$, and there was obviously a tip missing as well.

In conclusion

The location is perfect, it's not in the chaos of Times Square and it's really a 5-minute walk to everything. The room is so-so, but the rooftop and restaurant are additions that can brighten your stay in NY. Of course the price of the room was really high, but at that time the prices in the Big Apple Were really crazy.

  • Hilton Honors
The verdict
The price, both cash and points, was too high for what this hotel offers. Sure the rooftop is nice and the restaurant interesting, but these are two locations that are open to everyone and do not even give benefits to HHonors members. The room was average for NY.
