When, on March 2, 2023, Virgin Atlantic announced. that she would officially become a Skyteam member, we serial accumulators of points and miles we had worried about losing the chance to book one of the best first-class cabins in the world: The Loft by All Nippon Airlines.
ANA remains partner with Virgin Atlantic
The worst, however, did not happen and despite Virgin Atlantic joining Skyteam, all of the British airline's major partnerships with ANA and Singapore Airlines remained active.
There is bad news, however. The cost of the first class has increased significantly going from 120k flying club points + tax to 170 thousand + tax. A one-way ticket consequently increased from 60k to 85k. However, the other types of award tickets were not affected. So flying eco or biz will cost the same as before.
It must be said that even with the new fares, ANA tickets remain a very good deal when issued with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club: given that now Italian travelers can easily accumulate points on their frequent flyer card of the British company could be a strategy for those who want to target this ticket.
Conclusion
VS's Flying Club changed the table to redeem ANA award tickets without any notice. I don't consider it a devaluation simply because I was convinced that partnerships outside of Skyteam would be eliminated altogether, so in the end the glass is half full.
