Joined ITA Airways since the company's inception, Deborah Rossi had the honor, on August 16, 2021, of being the pilot at the controls of ITA Airways' first "demo" flight, which is the mandatory flight for any airline to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
I had the honor of flying with the new commander last November, Rossi was part of the crew of the inaugural flight from Rome to Tokyo and back, on that occasion there were ITA Airways' chief of commanders and two special deputies on board, as the cabin was majority "pink."
Deborah Rossi became a Commander thanks to ITA Airways' "Command Courses.", planned by the company as early as December 2021. His first flight as Commander was on the Rome Fiumicino - Buenos Aires route and he will fly passengers to all ITA Airways intercontinental destinations by operating the Airbus A350 and Airbus A330.
ITA Airways has launched the "Command Courses" to kick off an important training program to become Role Commanders. ITA Airways' training courses in recent months have been not only a school of the highest professionalism for pilots, but, more importantly, a unique opportunity to achieve the coveted goal of becoming a Commander, the dream and ambition of every airline pilot, by passing the training/selective process. Each ITA Airways "Command Course" was divided into different phases, both classroom and technical training at the flight simulators in the Company's training center, and in flight.
The last Command Courses were more than a decade old, this rebirth for ITA Airways is an important concrete signal that demonstrates the company's focus on its aircrew and their training to rise to roles of increasing responsibility.
