This week we told the blooming lounges at Rome Fiumicino airport.. Two have opened their doors and in less than 14 days. ITA Airways' new Hangar will open. In contrast, diametrically opposite situation at Malpensa, Italy's second airport.
Monteverdi Hall is (probably) Europe's saddest lounge and has now closed for construction. A banner blocks access to the escalators and leaves one hoping for a complete makeover of one of the two lounges in the terminal 1 area dedicated to Schengen flights.
There are no official releases, we at TFC have repeatedly tried to get in touch with the SEA press office in recent months with no luck. What we know are the rumors we have gathered from other travelers who have reported the news and rumors to us.
Note that this "novelty" that is not present on the Priority Pass app which in fact reports the lounge as regularly open. Given that there are not many lounges at Malpensa and that in the Schengen area in addition to the Monteverdi there is only the Lufthansa lounge will not be a good time for those who have to depart from this airport.
We have been told that a temporary waiting room would be carved out in close proximity to the Monteverdi lounge, but accessible only to business class or elite status passengers, not to holders of the well-known card that gives access to thousands of lounges.
While the news can only make us happy, this lounge is truly one of the worst, if not the worst by detachment at an airport the size of Malpensa, it is the timing that is puzzling. There is talk of two months of work, this means that throughout the spring, including Easter, travelers will be without a foothold during a near peak season.
However, I want to see the glass half full and believe the message, in English only, on the banner inhibiting lounge access: "Your satisfaction is our priority. Get ready for a better lounge experience." Of course the beginning of the sentence reminds me of a quote from Lino Banfi in "Come Forward Moron," but let's hope the ending is different.
