Ryanair will operate more than 180 weekly flights for summer 2023 (+800% growth over Summer '19) offering citizens/visitors of western Sicily the widest choice at the lowest rates in Europe for summer vacations, increasing both inbound tourism and jobs.
Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair DAC, said, "As Europe's and Italy's largest airline, Ryanair is pleased to announce even more new routes to/from Trapani-Marsala, offering its customers/visitors in Western Sicily over 180 weekly flights to 24 exciting destinations including 2 new ones to Naples and Porto (+800% growth over pre-Covid). This growth is supported by Ryanair's commitment to Sicily and the fantastic and ongoing support of the airport management team, which has worked tirelessly to ensure that Trapani-Marsala emerges from the pandemic with more flights, connections and low fares, supporting over 750 jobs in Trapani. Ryanair also recently unveiled its extraordinary growth proposal for Sicily, and we hope to positively engage with the Sicilian government to provide even more routes, connectivity, jobs and lower fares for the island. Ryanair is the only airline that can grow traffic, connectivity, and tourism for Sicily. As Sicily now competes directly with other major Mediterranean tourist destinations such as Malta, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cyprus and the Greek islands, Sicily's number one priority should be to further develop its year-round tourism product by reducing access costs through the abolition of the tourism tax (i.e., the municipal surtax), which is detrimental to the island economy. We are hoping for a quick positive response to our growth proposal that would guarantee 1.5 million more inbound passengers and 1.5 billion extra tourism spending per year, while supporting 1,200 more local jobs. To celebrate Ryanair's 25th anniversary in Italy, we are launching a special promotion with seats available from just €25 one way for travel through June '23 to www.Ryanair.com."
Salvatore Ombra, President of Airgest, said:
"The choice of venue for the press conference presenting Ryanair's summer season to and from Trapani Birgi Airport was more than symbolic. Like the Punic ship, preserved here, that 2000 years ago transported people and things around the Mediterranean, Ryanair, today, with its fleet, transports passengers and cargo around Europe. The wind, blowing strong and sure, has allowed the Vincenzo Florio to restart, for us is called the Sicilian Region, majority shareholder, which has invested in the future of the airport and therefore in the territory. On behalf of the people of Trapani, then, we would like to thank the head of the regional government, Renato Schifani, and the top management of Ryanair, for their valuable contribution. Airports, in fact, along with ports and infrastructure are the cornerstones of mobility, and it is necessary to develop intermodality between airports, ports and railway stations, so that Sicilians, too, are put in a position to move as in the rest of Europe."
