Trieste airport kicks off its summer season with 16 routes between international and domestic connections for a total of 85 weekly flights. This is important growth for the Friuli Venezia Giulia airport, which already saw passenger numbers increase by 40% during Easter week compared to last year.
Ryanair's routes from Trieste
Driving the growth of the Trieste airport are mainly the Ryanair's new routes to Barcelona and Dublin.
"The season has started off already giving satisfactory signs, especially the flight to Dublin has exceeded our expectations," emphasized Trieste Airport's CEO, Marco Consalvo - with an incoming figure that we estimate could be around 25,000 Irish tourists in the first nine months of operation in 2023. Bookings on Barcelona are also going very well."
The Irish airline has increased its connections from Trieste: routes to Dublin and Barcelona are joined by the resumption of the connection for Brussels Charleroi and increasing the number of flights to 5 more destinations (Bari, Catania, Naples, Palermo, Valencia) in addition to flights to Cagliari, London and Malta.
Of the 16 summer routes, therefore, as many as 11 are operated by the low-cost carrier led by Michael O'Leary.
The other new feature of the summer is always low cost: Wizz Air will operate from July 3 the new flight to Tirana, Albania. Air Serbia airline also plans 2 weekly frequencies to Belgrade - starting June 2 - providing continuations to the Balkans and more and more international destinations.
Ita and Lufthansa increase frequencies
Finally, the national airline Ita Airways is increasing its service to its Rome Fiumicino hub to four daily flights; while from July 22 to September 3, there will be two weekly connections that Will connect Trieste with Olbia airport., in Sardinia.
Lufthansa - about to acquire a minority stake in Ita Airways - increases to two the coday connections to Frankfurt airport., providing connectivity for international and intercontinental destinations.
"Summer 2023 represents the starting point after the pandemic in the growth and development path of Trieste Airport, the summer offer proposes a wide and diversified programming with destinations suitable both for short and long vacations but also for study and business trips with connections to/from all over the world, thanks to the increased frequencies on the hubs," Consalvo concludes.
