Today, April 11, 2023, the president of the United States. Joe Biden signed executive order ending restrictions related to the pandemic in the United States. It was Trump who had closed U.S. borders at the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, borders that had been reopened by Biden in November 2021.
While other nations in these two years have slowly lightened and removed restrictions returning to pre-crisis arrangements, the U.S. had continued to maintain mandatory vaccination for tourists heading to the United States: a barrier that forced all unvaccinated people to forgo travel to the States.
Goodbye restrictions, here's the date
The order signed today set May 11, 2023 as the end date for the restrictions: As of that date, they will no longer be required to be vaccinated, and passengers bound for the U.S. will no longer have to prove that they have completed their vaccination cycle, so no self-certification will be required, as has been the case since spring last year.
Goodbye to red tape and easier travel For all ESTA holders, the electronic visa required for all passengers who want to go to the U.S. on vacation for a few weeks.
This news comes perfectly in time for you to plan a trip to the U.S. next summer. A summer that never before 2023 had seen so many direct connections from Italy to North America, from Rome and Milan Malpensa, but also from many other Italian airports.
