Those old enough to remember the world of travel before 9/11 will remember how easy it was to get on a plane, how few checks there were at the airport to things and people. Then the terrorist attacks and everything changed.

Where is this technology active in Italy
The first thing to know is that this is not a technology available at all airports; in fact, only a fraction of Italian airports, and even fewer in the rest of the world, have installed these machines.
In our country, this technology is available at only 3 airports: Linate, Fiumicino and Malpensa. In regular order of activation.
The revolution began at Linate, when the world and Italy were still wrapped up in the quarrels of the pandemic, the Milanese airport has been completely renovated, becoming one of the world's best city airports. Among the first innovations to come into service were precisely automated checks, face boarding and passenger biometric recognition procedures.
It was then the turn of Fiumicino.. First the novelty was activated at terminal 1 in the Fast Track area, passengers could not only skip the queue also pass inspection without any stress. Goodbye old restrictions
Limitations no longer exist. A jar of Ligurian pesto to take to cousins in New York? A bottle of champagne to celebrate graduation in Palermo? there are no longer limits to what you can bring from outside beyond the sterile area of controls.
These new scanners are able to see everything inside the bag, in three dimensions and recognize whether liquids or creams are dangerous or not.
Not only then will you be able to leave your computer and tablet inside your bag, but there will no longer be a 100ml limit for liquids. One will be able to pass the controls with a water bottle full of water (or schnapps for those who are afraid to fly) no restrictions then on creams, makeup, baby food, aerosol liquids, etc. etc.

Be careful if you make transit or depart from other airports
This technology is spreading rapidly, but it is a spotty spread, for example I found it in Bratislava, but in Paris, Amsterdam and London it is still being installed. Since it is not installed in any other Italian airport it is good to remember that it is not worth saying " ... in Milan they let me board it without any problems...." The bottle of Passito di Pantelleria bought outside the airport will not pass inspection in Palermo or Catania, or at least not in the summer of 2023.
For example, in the U.S. it is still light years away, just think that here they still make you take off your shoes when you pass the body scanner.
Be careful if you are boarding an international flight with a stopover, it is not certain that if you pass a new round of checks you will be able to proceed with liquids embarked in Italy, so be careful if you have a stopover, better to pack any risky products in your suitcase.
