During the Singapore Airlines pandemic, like virtually every other company in the world, helped frequent flyers maintain status and not lose their accumulated points. Last year came the last ex officio extension of statuses, and now the miles are also starting to expire again.
There were a total of seven deadline postponements made by the KrisFyer program to protect its members unable to travel due to the pandemic and restrictions that reopened Asia's borders last compared to what happened in the West.workable for most members.
The extension of validity is coming to an end
In these initial months of 2023, the last, remaining maneuvers to support the various loyalty programs have fallen away. The world has returned to travel and thus the various parachutes have come to an end. I had written an article just in late 2022 devoted to this situation.
So from the end of July, the normal expiration of Krisflyer miles begins again. Singapore Airlines' loyalty program has very simple rules for managing the points accumulated by members. KF miles expire 36 months after they are earned. Regardless of how they were accumulated from flights to credit cards, shopping to Quandoo restaurant reservations, Will expire on the last day of the month 36 months after the month in which they were credited For the first time on your account.
How to check your bank statement
Just log on to the Singapore app or website, log in and see if you have miles expiring in the next 6 months. If you have points expiring on July 31, 23 it means you have a few days to use them or they will be lost forever. Of course, even if you have an upcoming expiration date, it is good to think about using your points to avoid seeing them fade away.
How to save expiring miles
The best way to use Singapore Airlines points is definitely to fly in the spectacular first-class cabin aboard Singapore's A380s, but there can also be many uses for short- to medium-haul flights around Southeast Asia, perhaps taking advantage of the spontaneous escapes that are posted on the site every mid-month.
In a nutshell, there are four options for saving expiring miles:
- Using them to redeem a flight before they expire, booking today to fly a year from now is one of the best options
- Pay to extend their validity by 6 or 12 months (you can only do this once)
- Sacrifice about half, but renew the remaining budget for another 3 years
- Converting them into loyalty points from a partner program
If you thought you could get around the mileage expiration problem by making an award ticket reservation, then later canceling the ticket and redepositing the miles, unfortunately it won't work.
Every KrisFlyer mile in your account has a "memory"-it knows exactly when it was earned, including miles redeemed for a flight on which you have not yet traveled.
In conclusion
Be careful not to leave valuable points on the street, and above all always keep a close eye on your virtual wallets so as not to see your hard-earned money/points fade away. Singapore Airlines points are very popular in Italy given its partnership with American Express and membership in the Star Alliance family.
