I just received an email from Qatar's loyalty program, the Privilege Club, announcing an upcoming change in how status is obtained and more.
The Doha-based airline's frequent flyer Has undergone a lot of changes in recent months, the latest in chronological order was the reduction of costs for the booking award tickets with partner companies, not therefore a devaluation, but a revaluation of points.
The most important change was the one that led to theAdoption of avios points as program currency and parity with British Airways points.
What were Qcredits
I never delved into Qatar's Privilege Club having jumped right into British Airways' Executive Club, sure now that the two programs are twins I might even consider making the jump from one to the other, but as always when you leave the old road for the new there are always surprises around the corner.
Qcredits are, or should we say were, awarded to Gold and Platinum members. Upon attaining status they were credited with 40 and 60 Qcredits respectively that were valid for 12 months and could be used to apply for:
- Class upgrade
- Excess baggage
- Zeroing costs on award tickets
- Guest lounge access
What the Keys will be
At the moment there is still no detail on how the "keys" will be different from the "credits," Qatar leaves everything to a future communication, but promises that they will allow for extraordinary rewards. Let's just hope it's not a devaluation disguised as big news, but given that the last few times the carrier has surprised everyone I don't see why to think otherwise.
