It is news these days, however, that the private Italian airline has chosen to also focus on Ancona, launching three international routes and winning the bid to operate flights under territorial continuity.

Aeroitalia - as it points out The Adriatic Courier - was the only Italian airline to participate in the tender funded by the Italian government and the Marche Region to operate three routes from Ancona to Milan Linate, Naples and Rome Fiumicino Under territorial continuity.

The territorial continuity scheme is a form of public funding useful to operate certain routes considered to be of "public interest and service."

With the term territorial continuity, in fact, denotes those legislative instruments that aim to guarantee transportation services to citizens living in disadvantaged regions of the nation to which they belong, "or to strengthen cohesion between different areas of the same state, overcoming disadvantages related to their remoteness, unattainability, or difficulty of access," as reported by the House of Representatives.

In practice, this translates into a system of financial aid provided by the state to the citizens or regional entities concerned that derogate from the principles of free market and free competition, "so that transportation can be enjoyed regardless of the actual profitability obtainable by the carrier."

The most practical examples in Italy, are the territorial continuity flights that are awarded through public bidding by the regions of Sardinia and Sicily. This usually results in the arrangement of fixed-price tariffs For residents of affected regions.

To cover the costs - possibly higher than the locked-in tariffs - government and regional they finance the airlines operating the routes established by the notice, that is, so-called economic compensation.

    Routes from Ancona

Aeroitalia was then awarded continuity flights from Sanzio Airport to Rome, Milan and Naples, being the only airline that participated in the tender.

Flights Will start on October 1, 2023 and will be operated until 2025 according to the scheme in the notice. The tariff scheme includes. 65 euros one way to Milan and 60 euros for that on Rome and Naples. The fare is valid for those who lives in the Marche Region, people with disabilities, college students up to 27 years old, children and young people from 2 to 21 years old, and senior citizens over 70 years old.

The scheme of operations includes. Two flights a day between Ancona and Rome, one flight per day to Naples to half-day and two flights per day round trip (Monday through Friday, one flight per day Saturday and Sunday) to Linate.

    The other routes in continuity

Aeroitalia already operates territorial continuity routes to Sardinia and from next October 29 will also operate territorial continuity flights from Alghero to the airports of Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate. The Italian airline won the bid, beating Ita Airways, to operate until Oct. 26, 2024.

From the beginning of the Iata winter schedule, then, Aeroitalia will operate on a continuous basis both routes from Rome and Milan to Alghero, in addition to the existing routes from Milan and Rome (the latter without the economic compensations and shared with Volotea, ed.) for the airport in Olbia Emerald Coast.

    International flights from Ancona

In the same hours that the carrier was awarded the tender, Aeroitalia also announced that flights to Barcelona, Bucharest and Vienna from Ancona. The flights will be operated by 68-seat Atr72/600 aircraft of Air Connect airline.

Aeroitalia, in fact, will operate the connections on a twice-weekly basis, and the flights are part of a framework agreement signed between AeroItalia and the management company of the Marche airport.
