Marriott and Hilton mark each other closely, each action corresponds to a response, even though the two chains have two different approaches. Marriott, even post-merger with Sheraton, incorporates hotel groups by adding brands to its portfolio, see the recent acquisition of the Mexican city express. Hilton, on the other hand, has far fewer signs (31 to 19) and assigns new hotels to existing brands, or creates new brands to launch a different product concept.

Washington's Trump Hotel becomes Waldorf Astoria

Mottos are precisely an example of this strategy. Is Moxy a formula that works? Here in Hilton they have launched Motto. That is, hotels that focus all on "no frills" rooms and prices, but very hip common spaces that will appeal to the new generation of travelers. Needless to say, just as I like Moxy, I am intrigued by Motto.

This was the second hotel in this chain that I visited, the first was the one in Midtown, New York.. There is currently only one hotel of this chain in Europe and it was recently opened in the Netherlands.

Reservation

When I went to DC for try ITA's premium economy I chose this hotel for its location, in the heart of China Towm for the price, cheaper than the other facilities, and for the desire to try another Motto hotel.

Obviously booked with app and also took advantage of a special promo on this property that gave 2000 extra points in addition to all the various ongoing promos. Rooms all, almost, identical at a price of $145.

Leaving for the U.S. I recommend that you download Airalo and activate a data eSim so you can 100% take advantage of your cell phone without wasting time with local sims and thanks to TFC15, as a discount code you will get the 15% savings. If you are already an Airalo customer, you can use TFC10 to get 10% discount in addition to cashback on any future purchase.

Location

As mentioned, we are in the heart of China Town, an area in great turmoil, in the capital of the United States. The hotel is not far from key places such as the White House and the monuments that one comes to visit when passing through the city, and because of this is perfect as a base for those who have a city tour in their schedule.

I had already been to DC and having already visited all the most iconic places, I devoted myself to visiting the area of The Wharf, also recovered in recent years and has become a very interesting place both for the food scene and for art and trendy clubs.

Check-in and room

The reception desk of the Motto by Hilton Washington DC City Center looks like a modern art painting, here a young and very informal staff carried out the check-in procedures in less than 60 seconds.

The room is essential, as when booking a low-cost ticket, there is nothing superfluous, starting with space.

There is just one bed, Queen, an equally small bathroom. In my case having Diamond status gave me an upgrade to a high floor room and a view of China Town, but to understand it there is no closet and if you have a lot of luggage the space is very little.

For me who I travel at most with a trolley is not a problem, if you have suitcases for a 4-month vacation, perhaps, it is not the right place. But considering that in DC you stay a maximum of 72 hours, it's perfect.

The structure

On the ground floor there is a coffee shop, like Starbucks and a Diner, the first noni is connected with the hotel, this means that you will not be able to put charges on the room bill and you will not be able to use loan credit for those with status. In the Mottos, there is never a free breakfast, it is a peculiar feature of this sign.

The environments are beautiful and modern, and everything is really neat and well maintained.

On the rooftop is the Rooftop, the real attraction of this hotel, oh my, we are not in Miami or New York, but it is still a nice option for such a facility.

Food & Beverage

I consumed my credit in the dine, the only small flaw being that being a dine does not open at breakfast, but at 11 am. So I ended up having an almost European breakfast in the cafe and then had lunch in the dine before checking out.

In conclusion

Good facility, interesting location, suitable for single travelers or couples. I would not recommend it to those with children because the rooms are very small and there is not much to distract the children with after a busy day wandering around DC.

As always write me in the comments what you think of the review and if you have visited this hotel, give me your opinion.

The verdict
If you like Moxy, you will also love Motto. Of course this one is not built from the ground up, but it's a building that was reclaimed and turned into a hotel. The rooms are small and basic, but the location is really perfect because you can walk to the White House and all the hot spots of the American capital. The Mottos never offer breakfast to guests, so credit if you have "burn it" status in the rooftop,
