Air traffic recovery is traveling at a now steady pace. Despite some concerns about the slowdown in bookings for winter 2023-after this summer's boom-some carriers continue to predict demand growth even for the winter season that is almost upon us.
More connections over Malpensa
Etihad Airways, for example, has announced a massive increase in connections in the coming months-a revised flight plan that also affects Italy.
Starting Nov. 21, therefore, the airline will add three additional frequencies to the airport in Milan Malpensa, thus reaching 10 weekly flights. The same increase (with equal number of weekly flights) is planned for routes to Madrid Barajas Airport and Munich Airport.
Flights over Rome Fiumicino
Etihad then also announced the addition of other Four flights per week to Rome Fiumicino airport for a total of 11 weekly flights operated at the capital airport. The same increase and number of weekly routes is also planned for direct flights to Frankfurt.
This network reshaping, moreover, will give Italian passengers the opportunity to reach in continuation all destinations in the EH network.
There will be four weekly extra services which will begin-in this case-on November 4, 2023. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Will take off from Italy's best airport, and among the best in the world, two flights a day instead of one.
Thanks to the agreement of codeshare with Ita Airways, moreover, travelers will be able to embark from Fiumicino to the Etihad network, and vice versa, passengers from Abu Dhabi will be able to take advantage of the domestic network and not just Ita.
The daily flight schedule remain, as always, in the morning: arrival in Rome at 6 a.m. and departure for Abu Dhabi at 9 a.m. Extra services, on the other hand, will be in the evening: arrival in Rome at 12 p.m. and departure from Rome at 9 p.m.
The flights will be operated with the Boeing 787, configured with the two travel classes: business and economy.
There are no plans for the A350/1000 to be used on Italian routes in Rome and Milan, flagship along with the revived A380 in Etihad's fleet. Just in the past month Etihad has brought the A380 back into the air on routes to London Heathrow.
Other winter routes
Finally, the Emirates airline has also updated other operations: it will change flight schedules to the airport of Amsterdam Schiphol (seven times a week); while seven more frequencies per week will be added for the international airport di Chennai (India), Bringing the number of flights per week to 21.
Etihad is also adding seven more flights per week to both Velana International Airport at the Maldives and for Phuket in Thailand. From November 21, the two airports will be served with twice as many connections (14 per week).
New flights for winter 2023
Etihad Airways has also added new destinations to its winter network. The airline will fly three times a week to the international airport of Düsseldorf and four times a week to the airport in Copenhagen (CPH); there will be five flights per week to theOsaka International in Japan (starting October 1).
Other new features include direct flights to the Boston Logan (four times a week to the U.S.). Finally, the route to Lisbon becomes annual and will also be operated in the summer.
