It must be said that Air France and KLM use carrot and stick with Flying Blue loyalty program members. If one day they make it more complicated to book La Premiere, the next day they further enhance the monthly offers that are launched to redeem award tickets at a lower-than-standard price.
New from this month.
The main change is that the window period has been lengthened within which to book tickets. Usually the offers, which come out putualmente on the first of each month covered a period of 5 months. For example, the July 2023 promos allowed booking until December 31, 2023.
This month's promos, however, are valid until March 31, 2024, i.e., one can book a discounted award ticket 7 months in advance, allowing very distant schedules. To understand the difference before covid this window was only 2 months. So I can only say that this is excellent news.
The other news is that at last the page devoted to the offers specifies the fare and class of travel, something that previously could only be imagined.
August's offerings
The Flying Blue program has launched monthly offers valid throughout August, but as usual if you plan to redeem one of these discounted offers it is best to do so as soon as possible.
There are 24 destinations on offer and the cost of the ticket includes an approach flight from Italy to Paris or Amsterdam depending on whether the route will be operated by Air France or KLM.
For example, with the welcome bonus Of the Mooncard corporate credit card, it is (almost) possible to detach three tickets to Boston, but there are so many opportunities.
Long-haul destinations on offer are:
- With Air France at Detroit as low as 11,250 FB points
- With Air France at New York as low as 11,250 FB points
- With Air France at Chicago as low as 11,250 FB points
- With Air France at Quebec as low as 11,250 FB points
- With Air France at Montreal as low as 11,250 FB points
- With KLM at Washington as low as 11,250 FB points
- With Air France at Denver as low as 12,750 FB points
- With Air France at Houston from 15,000 FB points
- With Air France at Atlanta from 15,000 FB points
- With KLM at Austin from 15,750 FB points
- With KLM at Minneapolis as low as 18,375 FB points
- With KLM at Shanghai from 18,750 FB points
- With KLM at Beijing as low as 41,250 FB points
Some examples
I found the possibility of flying to Beijing for only 70k points plus taxes, from Milan via Amsterdam, a little more than the asking price for economy.
The best way to search for tickets is to take advantage of the monthly calendar-just don't enter a specific date, just put in the month, and you will be able to see the minimum price for each day of the month, or move to the next month with one click.
Beware because it could often happen that you then actually find slightly different rates than those displayed in the calendar, so I always recommend that you also go into the details of the date so that you don't miss a few thousand points along the way.
Option tickets
Air France and KLM are two companies that make it possible to opting for award places waiting to have completed the points transfer. You call the call center and explain to the attendant the need to transfer the points. Typically an operation that takes no more than 24/36 hours. Once the points have been credited to your account, simply contact the CC again and finalize your reservation. Beware because it is not possible, however, to option the tickets on offer.
What are Flying Blue offers
Every month the Air France and KLM loyalty program. releases a list of destinations bookable with points at a reduced cost, up to 50%. Real gems have been released in past promotions, such as tickets to fly to Martinique in business for less than 35k points, or redeem award tickets to go business class in North America for less than 30K points.
