Kenya Airways, Skyteam Company, has extended its Status Match campaign to attract new members to the frequent flyer owner Asante Rewards. If in the past few days we wrote about the possibility of getting status in Star Alliance, today we talk about getting the elite level in the alliance of which Air France, KLM, and still for some time ITA Airways are members.
Status Match Kenya Airways, what you need to know
Since this offer, such as the one from Turkish that we published in recent days, is not a published promotion, the details of the promo are not completely clear. As always, one must weigh the pros and cons well and if necessary trigger the challenge.
Kenya Airways launched its own loyalty program, Asante Rewards, in June 2023. Until early summer, in fact, the African airline was participating in the Air France/KLM Flying Blue loyalty program. As soon as the separation was announced, the carrier launched the status match only to Flying Blue members, but it would now appear that the campaign has been extended to elite members of many other airlines.
To apply for status match you must:
- Register on Asante Rewards and select "Registration Complete"
- Send an email to asante@kenya-airways.com, along with your Asante Rewards number, a screenshot of your current status, and a text explaining why you are requesting the Status Match
- If confirmed, the new status should be valid for 12 months from the date of issuance.
It is important to note that there are no published guidelines and it is not entirely clear what the criteria is for matching traveler and status cards in the Kenya Airways Asante Rewards program. Since there are three levels, in addition to the entry level, it is presumable that a match is offered in line with the status held.
There is no expiration date, so if you want to try your luck better to do it sooner than later.
What are the benefits of Kenya Airways' Asante Rewards status?
There are four status levels in the Asante Rewards program.
- The base level is Asante Rewards Ruby, which is assigned to all members and is not really relevant to this state matching opportunity.
- Asante Rewards Silver, earns 50% bonus points when you fly, extra baggage, free seat selection within 24 hours of departure, and SkyTeam Elite status.
- Asante Rewards Gold, receive 75% bonus points when you fly, free Kenya Airways lounge access with a guest, and free seat selection within 72 hours of departure. You also get the SkyTeam Elite plus level
- Asante Rewards Platinum, rewards with a bonus of 100% points when you fly, plus free seat selection with no strings attached and, of course, SkyTeam Elite plus privileges
The SkyTeam Elite Level gives you preferred seating, priority check-in and priority boarding when traveling with any SkyTeam airline in any class of service. SkyTeam Elite Plus Members have access to airport lounges worldwide with a guest when traveling on a SkyTeam airline in any class of service and all SkyPriority privileges.
For Italian passengers who do not have a status with ITA Airways this could be an opportunity to get elite benefits when flying in economy with ITA AIrways, however, it remains an unknown whether at the gates of the Hangar lounge at Rome Fiumicino you will either get green light or a two of spades.
Same issues as Flying
As with ITA Airways' loyalty program, Asante Rewards has youth and recognition issues when traveling with Skyteam carriers. This means that privileges may not be recognized and disbursed. As an FF that has been in existence for less than 2 months, this is understandable, but the carrier is trying to make up for it much faster than what happened with ITA.
Currently, both Air France, KLM and Delta accept Asante Rewards loyalty cards. of Kenya Airlines for reservations, which means you should be able to enjoy extra benefits with these airlines if your status match is accepted.
In conclusion
Asante Rewards, Kenya Airways' new loyalty program offers a status match opportunity with no challenge, in fact there is no need to fly or own a ticket. This means that if you hold status with a oneWorld or Star Alliance carrier you can easily pick up a Skyteam card at no cost other than filling out an email. The process to apply for a status match is simple and you do not need to make any flights to qualify or extend your status.
