Starting today, August 15, 2023, the rules for travel to Vietnam change, it lengthens the maximum allowable length of stay in the Asian nation without the need to apply for a visa. The change affects several nationalities, including Italians.
What's changing for vacations in Vietnam
Thus, the timing for vacations to Ho Chi Min, Hanoi and throughout the rest of the nation is changing. Holders of a valid passport to obtain a visa on arrival will be able to stay up to 45 days without any problem, instead of the previous 15.
On the other hand, those who are subject to the eVisa, will be able to stay up to 3 months instead of 30 days as is currently the case. This also applies to Italians who wanted to stay longer than the 45 days allowed under the new system.
Obviously, those who arrived before August 15 will have to abide by the old rules, as there is no automatic extension of residence permits.
If you are thinking of going on a trip to Vietnam. I recommend that you download Airalo and activate a data eSim so you can 100% take advantage of your cell phone without wasting time with local sims and thanks to TFC15, you will get 15% savings as a discount code. If you are already an Airalo customer, you can use TFC10 to get 10% off in addition to cashback on any future purchases.
Facilitate tourism and help business development
The government said that "since the implementation of the e-visa pilot phase in 2017, the number of foreigners applying for e-visas has been increasing. However, due to the current short duration of 30 days for e-visas, it has not attracted foreigners as expected."
Regarding the extension of the duration of temporary residence permits at border crossings from 15 days to 45 days, the government says that through studies of travel trends, tourists from markets such as Europe often have longer vacations than 15 days.
Countries such as Thailand and Singapore are implementing visa-free policies with temporary residence permits of up to 45 days or 90 days, so the Vietnamese government has decided to match its neighboring nations.
