It will be a busy 2024 on the Italy-U.S. routes. Even more so with regard to direct flights on Naples Capodichino. After United's confirmation of the connection from the capital of Naples to Newark and American's upcoming debut with its flight from Philadelphia; now it is the turn of Delta Air Lines which announced the start of the route between New York JFK and Naples for summer 2024.

In the coming summer, therefore, all three U.S. sisters will fly to Capodichino: a sign of the strong travel demand affecting the route Italy-U.S., but also of strong competition among the big players.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that United is also likely to land in Palermo with the start of a direct flight to the U.S. that was previously scheduled in 2019, then postponed to a date to be determined due to the pandemic.

Delta Air Lines has launched, then its challenge to American and United for summer 2024 with a network that includes, in addition to the flight to Naples, increased frequencies from Venice to Atalanta. In total, the carrier of the'Skyteam alliance will offer up to 94 weekly flights on the Italy-US route.
The Naples-New York JFK flight will take off on the next May 25, 2024 and will be daily; while as of May 31, three more weekly flights will start on the Venice-Atlanta route, which will then reach 10 weekly connections in midsummer.
"Italy is a major transatlantic market for Delta, and we are really excited to expand our presence in the country, coming to serve four Italian cities," said Matthew Curcio, Delta senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India - We are experiencing unprecedented demand for our services, and we look forward to supporting inbound tourism by welcoming more visitors to Italy from the U.S., as well as offering our passengers more choice, direct flights and connections to more connecting destinations across America."
In addition to the new route to Naples and additional frequencies on the Venice-Atlanta route, Delta will operate a comprehensive schedule of direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to New York-JFK, Atlanta, Boston and Detroit, from Milan Malpensa to New York-JFK and Atlanta, and from Venice Marco Polo to New York-JFK. All Delta flights over Italy are operated in partnership with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic.
Flights over Naples and Venice
The Naples New York route involves the takeoff from Italy of the DL233 flight at 10 a.m. with arrival in the Big Apple at 2:05 p.m.; return is scheduled with DL232 departing the U.S. at 4:50 p.m. and landing in Capodichino at 8:00 a.m. the next day. Delta will operate the flight with aircraft 211-seat Boeing 767-300, which features Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin classes of service.
The additional flights between Venice and Atlanta are three per week and depart Atlanta at 4:25 p.m. with arrival in Venice at 8:00 a.m. the following day. From the lagoon city they take off at 10:15 a.m. with landing in the States at 3:20 p.m.
The networks of American and United
In mid-August also American Airlines had made a similar announcement to Delta's. For next summer in fact, AA will fly between Naples and Philadelphia starting June 6, 2024 with B787-8 and daily frequency throughout the summer season until October.
The day before - June 5 - American will also resume Chicago-Venice: a daily flight operated by Boeing 787-8.
Naples Capodichino Airport-which is experiencing a real exploit in connections-has received initial attention from United Airlines which only resumed direct flights with the U.S. last year.
The daily seasonal connection of the U.S. giant Naples to New York Newark - operating since May 6 and until October 28, 2023 - even received a doubling of frequencies from last June 23 to September 7. During this period, therefore, there were as many as two flights a day to and from the Naples airport.
The daily non-stop Naples-New York flight is operated by B767-300, with a total of 214 seats - including 30 seats in Business class (Polaris), 49 seats in Economy Plus and 135 in Economy.
The additional flight, however, still involved B767 but with a different configuration: 46 seats in Polaris Business Class, 22 Premium Class, 43 Economy Plus and 56 Economy for a total of 167 seats. United has confirmed the route for next year, but has not yet indicated whether it will double frequencies during summer peaks.
