Ryanair has announced a series of reductions in winter operating 2023 as a direct result of delays in the delivery of Boeing aircraft in September-December.
Ryanair expected to receive 27 planes between September and December, but due to production delays at the Spirit Fuselage plant in Wichita, combined with delays in Boeing maintenance and delivery in Seattle, Ryanair now expects to receive only 14 aircraft between October and December. Ryanair is working with Boeing to try to accelerate deliveries in the period from January to May 2024, so that it can enter the full 2024 summer season with all 57 new Boeing aircraft delivered, as planned.
To date, we do not anticipate that these delivery delays will materially affect our annual traffic target of 183.5 million, but if the delays worsen or extend further in the period from January to March 2024, we may have to revisit this target and possibly adjust it slightly downward," said the Irish carrier's No. 1.
Because of these delivery delays, Ryanair will bring a number of changes to its winter 2023 operating. Will be reduced by 3, the number of aircraft based in Charleroi, by 2 those based in Dublin, and reduced by 5 the number of aircraft at 4 Italian bases, including Bergamo, Naples and Pisa. There will also be aircraft reductions in the East Midlands, Porto and Cologne.
Ryanair apologizes for these unavoidable reductions in its winter operations. Ryanair will have no spare aircraft this winter as scheduled maintenance is needed on its entire fleet of more than 550 aircraft to have them all ready for our largest ever summer operation in 2024.
"We are working closely with Boeing and its supplier, Spirit, to minimize these delivery delays. It is deeply regrettable that production problems in Wichita and Seattle have once again delayed deliveries contractually agreed upon between Boeing and Ryanair for this winter. We are maintaining an ongoing dialogue with Boeing and our primary goal is to ensure delivery of all 57 contracted B737 aircraft by the end of May 2024, so that Ryanair's fleet can grow to over 600 aircraft for what will be our largest summer operation ever. Flight cancellations will go into effect from the end of October and will be communicated to all affected passengers via email in the coming days. Re-routing on alternate flights or a full refund will be offered if they wish. We sincerely apologize to passengers for any inconvenience caused by these delivery delays this winter.
