Starting today and for about six weeks Qatar Airways' most exclusive lounge will be closed for maintenance. This means that from December there will be big news, but in the meantime first-class passengers will be "demoted" in the two business class lounges in Doha Airport.
Of course the new Al Mourjan is beautiful, but the first-class lounge in terms of offerings and exclusivity is a different matter.
To gain access to Al Safwa, you must be a Platinum member of the Qatar Privilege Club and fly Business Class or have a first class ticket, but considering that Qatar's first class is really unpopular given that Is only present on board the A380s and a few 777s. The exclusivity of this lounge is precisely related to the fact that Emerald oneWorld status holders cannot enter, while they have access to all other First Class lounges in the alliance, including Cathay Pacific's beautiful The Pier.
Passengers who already have access to Al Mourjan. they can also pay for access to Al Safwa, of course the cost is significant it's about 150 euros per passenger, an expense that I would not feel like recommending to anyone except in case of a very long stay since there is not only a restaurant and a spa inside, but also rooms available for guests to sleep in a real bed while waiting for their flight.
