During the month of October, the skies of Delta are colored pink with a series of initiatives promoted on the ground and in the air, aimed at raising funds for the nonprofit organization Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Since 2005, Delta employees, passengers, and their friends and families have raised $24 million for research, including the 3 million assembled in 2022.

Among this year's initiatives will be the arrival of the iconic Pink Plane Delta with the livery dedicated to the pink month at Rome Fiumicino. On this and all of the approximately 4,000 daily Delta flights operated in October, flight attendants will be dressed in pink uniforms, pink lemonade will be served, and there will be an opportunity to purchase different products in the distinctive hue-from hats, scarves, and T-shirts to themed achievements created by Delta employees-to contribute to the cause. Passengers are invited to shop or participate with a free donation, including cash and foreign currency. Delta also encourages its passengers and all those who want to support this important cause to purchase pink products that can be found on the dedicated online shop, the proceeds of which will help raise funds for the BCRF. The website is: Delta BCRF - SkyBoutique (deltashop.com) .
Also, in October, in the airports by Rome Fiumicino (Oct. 3), Milan Malpensa (Oct. 24) and Venice Marco Polo (all month) Delta staff organizes the Days of Hope, when employees, dressed in pink, sell themed gadgets such as pens or T-shirts at the departure gate, the total proceeds of which will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The real driving force behind Delta's breast cancer initiatives are its employees, who have often been touched directly, or in their family circle, by the disease. Atlanta-based flight attendant Robin Schmidt raised $46,804 last year-the highest amount ever put together by a single employee. "When people ask me how I did it, I answer that I just told my story. I collected donations for my friend and colleague who was fighting breast cancer for the second time. I told my passengers that every penny they donated could give her another moment on this earth, and I really felt that I had helped save her life".
