It was early September when a Delta Airlines flight, bound for Barcelona, had been forced to return to the airport of departure, Atlanta. "Biohazard." had been the explanation the pilots had given to air traffic control to justify returning to base.
What had happened was that on the Airbus was unleashed. an authentic shitstorm, with one of the passengers having a bout of diarrhea of such violence as to make the cabin a sewer and the air unbreathable. Obviously, with eight hours of flight time ahead in those conditions, the crew preferred to 'abort' the connection.
The news, partly because of its uniqueness, partly because of the inevitable revulsion, had soon circulated globally, recounted d televisions, newspapers and websites around the world. So much for the supposed uniqueness of the story, a similar situation occurred last Sunday evening on an easyjet Airbus about to leave Tenerife airport South bound to London Gatwick.
That of Flight 8054 is the classic story of a jellied journey.. With icing on the cake. The connection to Gatwick was already two hours late, following a machine change that involved replacing the Airbus A320 originally scheduled for service. Then, some luggage had to be disembarked due to excessive weight. Two hours went by (so to speak) just like that, with passengers sitting in their seats for over an hour and a half and the plane stopped at the parking lot.
Until the commander announced that everything was ready and they would take off in 20 minutes. It was at that point that two people headed for the front lavatory of the plane. When the second one came out, a penetrating odor of feces wafted to the front of the cabin: it had happened that, the passenger, had made it on the floor of the toilet, it is not clear whether in revenge for delay with the company or by mistake.
The flight attendants called the commander back out of the cockpit the commander, who decided that that was enough for that day and announced that the flight would be canceled to allow cleaning crews to bring the toilet, and the cabin, back within decent standards. While the fate of the impaired passenger is unknown, the others were accommodated in hotels for the night and returned to the British capital the next day. What's called a rough ride....
