After British Airways e Virgin Atlantic now Finnair also publicly announced the minimum number of award seats guaranteed on all its flights, short-haul and, especially, long-haul.
Not only does the novelty affect tickets booked through Finnair Avios points, but also those redeemed through oneWorld partners. Needless to say, this transparency to users is something very much appreciated.
How many award seats on each flight
According to Finnair's website, the airline will offer a minimum of eight premium seats on long-haul flights operating between Europe and Asia, North America and Dubai. The seats will be divided as follows:
- Two seats in business class
- Two seats in premium economy
- Four seats in Economy
On short-haul flights within Europe, where planes with rare exceptions are outfitted with only two cabins will be four seats in economy class and two in business class.
There are some routes, however, that are excluded from this guarantee, for example, connections to Doha and any fifth-freedom flights.
Whereas. Finnair award tickets can be booked almost a year in advance, are 355 first to be exact, it is good to do the math if you want to book for specific periods and grab one of the hottest seats in the world.
Finnair's other loyalty program changes
I have been writing a lot lately about Finnair and its loyalty program. Finnair Plus will adopt Avios as the currency to accumulate points at the end of January 2024. The way points are accumulated and the requirements for status will change, but at the moment there has been no pejorative announcement in terms of taxes and surcharges.
If things stay that way, given the crazy surcharges of BA award tickets it might be interesting to move avios to Finnair to book AY flights.
