In recent days All Nippon Airlines, Japan's largest company, has notified members of its Ana Mileage Club loyalty program that, starting next year, it will no longer send physical cards, and baggage tags to its frequent flyers.
The choice of the ANA loyalty program is similar to that made by many other loyalty programs, with one difference. Starting next February, however, members will be able to physically apply for the card based on their status.
I find the Japanese company's choice to be the most correct one. Those who still like to have the "plastic piece" can request it (once a year and there will be no duplicates), while those who prefer to make do with the digital format can do so without any problems.
Fewer and fewer companies are sending the physical card. ITA Airways only sends the card to those who get the Executive level, while Flying Blue, Emirates or Singapore have totally eliminated this option.
