With the end of classes in schools, we enter the hot phase of the Christmas and year-end vacation departures. Some people traditionally go skiing. But also those who take the opportunity for a trip to some European country or to some exotic destination.
Caught up as we have been so far with dinners, reunions with friends and relatives, and gift hunts, it may be that someone has forgotten about the document they have been keeping in their drawer, perhaps since last summer. And it can be found, within hours of departure, with an expired ID card or passport, or otherwise no longer valid to enter the country of destination being its expiration in less than six months.

At Rome Fiumicino, the office is located on the second floor (mezzanine) of the Terminal 3, departures-ticketing area. E' Open Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.. Like all public offices Is closed on holidays and therefore also on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
The service provided is exclusively for passengers with boarding passes and can be used from seven days before the flight departure date, with Priority given to requests to requests submitted for same-day departure flights and for requests made 2 or 3 days before departure.
Here is what it takes to get an ID card issued: return the expired or deteriorated document and present two passport photos; in case of loss or theft, file a report together with another identification document; if no other document is available, the presence of two witnesses is required; fill out a substitute declaration stating that you are not in any of the conditions that prevent the document from being issued; pay through pos, not cash; for minors, the presence of both parents is required, or the signed consent to expatriation of the absent parent, together with a photocopy of the parent's ID. The cost for issuing the ID card is 50 euros (35.58 euros for residents in the Municipality of Fiumicino).
At Milan Malpensa, last minute ID card can be made at the office located at Terminal 1, second floor check-in area ticket counters. E' open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and also on Saturdays, but only from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The conditions for issuing the document are identical to those given for Fiumicino. The cost of issuing the document is 5.42 euros.
In Bergamo Orio al Serio the service is available at the terminal registry office every day Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost for the release is 60 euros payable in cash or pos.
At Naples Capodichino counters used for issuing duplicate identity cards are located to the arrivals area (ground floor) and are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The service is for passengers with a ticket or reservation of a flight scheduled to depart within 48 hours of the document request. The cost of issuance is 60 euros.
In case your destination requires not an ID card, but the passport, exists a so-called 'emergency' procedure in effect at all police headquarters in Italy, ' which can be accessed 'if there are Urgent reasons (due to work, health, study, tourism) adequately justified and such as to be incompatible with the online appointment booking system for passport issuance,' reads the website of the Milan Police Headquarters.
The emergency procedure is not available like the 'normal' procedure at all state police stations, But only at some offices of the police headquarters. For example, in the case of Milan, the website of the police headquarters specifies that 'for needs within 10 days of the date of departure, the application must be submitted exclusively at the Passport Office in Via Cordusio 4 on weekdays from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.' In the case of a holiday-related departure, all documents necessary for the issuance or renewal of a passport and a ticket or flight reservation must be presented.
