In recent days we have written about the Thailand's backward march which has waived the expected levy for all tourists, today we instead discuss the new entrance fee that will go into effect in Bali from Valentine's Day.
How the new tax will work
This is not a tourist tax, but a real entry fee to be paid by all passengers entering the island, even if you arrive as if from a domestic flight. This means that if you are coming from an international destination you will add to the cost of the entry visa.
The (un)nice thing is that this fee will be payable by all nonIndonesian travelers, even on repeat entries. This means that from Bali you travel for a couple of days to Lombok, and then return to Bali you will have to pay the approximately 9 euros again.
Having passed through the Denpasar airport a couple of times, I wonder how they will distinguish passengers from local flights and how they will organize the screening.
Who will have to pay
The "Love Bali" tax will have to be paid by all, children included, and in the government's program is desired to support the tourism industry, with a focus on protecting Bali's culture and natural environment.
As mentioned if you take a day trip to places such as the Gili Islands, Lombok and Java you will have to pay the entry fee again. The only destinations that will not trigger the new payment will be trips to islands in the province of Bali:
