If you're passing through Las Vegas, here's how to take advantage of the partnership between Marriott and MGM

Details have finally been released regarding the upcoming partnership between The world's largest hotel company and the largest casino resort operator.

Unfortunately, #spoileralert things do not look as good as hoped, especially missing (at the moment) for Marriott elite users is the possibility of having a status match to Marriott, but it is not ruled out that it may come in the future.

There is no start date yet

Before breaking out the champagne, the sour notes: there is still no start date, viz. there is no start yet on booking MGM facilities through Marriott channels, at the time of the announcement there was talk of the beginning of the year, but there are still no details about it.

The facilities that will enter into this agreement are. some of the most famous on the Las Vegas strip (and more) and they are: Vdara Hotel & Spa, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, The Signature at MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, New York-New York Hotel & Casino, Luxor Hotel & Casino and Excalibur Hotel & Casino.

There are many Other hotels that are also affiliated with existing Marriott brands, where the benefits will be those under the Bonvoy program: Bellagio Resort & Casino (The Luxury Collection), ARIA Resort & Casino (Autograph Collection), Park MGM Las Vegas (Tribute Portfolio ) and Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (Autograph Collection).

And finally, other hotels scattered around the U.S.: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa (Atlantic City, New Jersey), Beau Rivage Resort & Casino (Biloxi, Mississippi), MGM Grand Detroit (Detroit, Michigan), MGM National Harbor (Oxon Hill, Maryland), and MGM Springfield (Springfield, Massachusetts).

The advantages

The important thing to know is that in order to get Bonvoy benefits you have to book through the official channels, as is normally the case; you will not receive anything if instead you book through MGM and/or other booking channels.

Silver and Gold Bonvoy are worth nothing or almost nothing, sure you accumulate qualifying nights, but the rest is very little, honestly I would not waste a dollar and would absolutely look at the place where I spend the least before booking through Marriott. In detail, Silver users get 10% of Marriott Bonvoy bonus points on eligible spending, while Gold users get 25% of Marriott Bonvoy bonus points on qualifying spending and a welcome gift of 500 Marriott Bonvoy points per stay

Platinum: 50% of Marriott Bonvoy bonus points on eligible charges; Room upgrades based on availability; Priority for check-in; 2 p.m. late check-out (subject to availability); Welcome gift of 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per stay or $ 15 food and beverage credit per night of stay

Right now the benefits are valid until 12/31/2024, then we will see what happens.

A half disappointment

We all hoped to see something similar to what was the partnership between MGM and Hyatt, but this marriage with Marriott does not hold up to comparison. There is no status match from Marriott to MGM, only the other way around.

There are no Marriott benefits when staying MGM: I as Titanium expected at least breakfast, which is not there and I will not even have late check-out. The only real advantage is priority check-in. It might make you smile to have the priority desk to get the room keys, but if you stay at the wrong time it could also mean 2 hours in line

The other major benefit, zero resort fees is for Ambassadors only, which is crazy since in Las Vegas it means a daily cost of over 30$ per night. Personally, I don't think I will ever take advantage of this opportunity much preferring traditional Marriott facilities and/or Hilton as the Resort World and its three hotels.
