The long-awaited announcement has arrived, albeit a few months late: thehe Thai airline Thai Airways will return to fly to Italy. A resumption of connections that Was thought to have taken place as early as last fall and which will instead be fulfilled July 1, with a Daily flight between Bangkok and Milan Malpensa. Instead, the return to Rome Fiumicino could take place in 2025.
The connection on Milan, which had been canceled (along with the one on Rome) four years ago with the outbreak of the global Covid epidemic, will be operated with a two-class Boeing 787-9, with 30 seats in Business and 268 in Economy (Thai offers First Class only on its Boeing 777-300ERs.).
In the front cabin the layout is 1+2+1, with open suites In an 'inverted herringbone' configuration and window seats looking outward. Row spacing is 61 inches (155 centimeters), seat width 21 inches (53 centimeters), and bed length 77 inches (195 centimeters).
In Economy, the configuration is the 'classic' Dreamliner configuration, with Rows of nine seats each with a 3+3+3 layout. Space between rows is 32 inches (81 centimeters) and seat width is 17 inches (43 centimeters).
From Milan Malpensa, flight TG941 will take off daily at 2:05 p.m. to land at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi at 5:55 a.m. the next day. In the reverse direction, takeoff from Thailand (flight TG940) is scheduled at 00:40 with landing at Malpensa at 7:35.
Reservations are already available on the company's website, which offers an entry fee ('Economy Standard') from €449.47 one-way and includes 25kg checked baggage, change of reservation with a $100 pensal and cancellation with a $200 penalty. It goes without saying that, beyond Bangkok, the new flight that will actually trigger with the start of the peak summer season will allow domestic connections to the many paradisiacal thai destinations, as well as to all destinations served by Thai in Far East Asia and Australia.
It is important for frequent flyers to know that Thai is one of the founding members of Star Alliance, on a par with Lufthansa, and Miles & More cardholders can earn points by flying with the Thai airline.
Malpensa now remains waiting for another announcement from Asia: that of theStart of flights by All Nippon Airways from Tokyo.
As is well known, the Japanese company was supposed to start serving Milan from March 2020, but the connection had never started due to the Covid outbreak. It was expected that Tokyo-Milan would be started in 2023, after Japan reopened to foreign visitors, but this did not happen. Recently, ANA moved its offices in Italy from Rome to Milan. A signal that Tokyo-Milan should be close by now.
