Swiss's in Terminal E is, arguably, one of the best lounges in Europe. Not only because of the location, but also because of everything it houses inside.

Location

We are inside Terminal E, the one designated for intercontinental flights at Zurich International Airport. All direct flights to destinations the long haul and beyond depart here.

Receptionists direct passengers to one of two lounges: on the right those who are eligible to enter Senator and on the left business class passengers.

Is premium economy the new business class? For €180, here's how to fly on Swiss's 777

In order to enter the most beautiful lounge, one must possess Senator status, or equivalent status in a Star Alliance airline, and I, thanks to my Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Gold, had access to this lounge on my return from a Swiss flight from Bangkok and before boarding, in economy, to Milan Linate.

The lounge

I must say that I did not expect such a beautiful, bright lounge with several goodies such as a Whiskey Club and more.

Just inside if you turn left you enter the 28/10 Whiskey Club, a small sanctuary dedicated to lovers of this type of alcohol.

A super-experienced bartender is able to recommend each patron a glass of one of the more than 200 bottles on the bar's shelves, of course all available to guests and all free of charge.

The beautiful thing about the lounge is the endless glass wall present on both sides of the structure.

If the weather permits, and on my visit it was indeed a hot summer day, you can also sit on the terrace overlooking the runway.

A unique opportunity for all lovers of the genre I also had the chance to capture an airplane now, almost extinct from the skies around the world, a very rare A340-300 an airplane that by now I think is in the fleet only at Swiss anymore.

Of course, being the terminal for intercontinental flights, it is easy to admire many large planes docked at the fingers of the Helvetic airport.

The lounge is very large and I must say it is absolutely the best Senator lounge I have ever visited, superior in every way even to the lounges in Frankfurt, the home of Lufthansa.

Very nice is the long corridor, renamed the boulevard, with the wooden wall housing the peaks of the Swiss Alps, while magazines and newspapers, almost extinct items from lounges around the world, are distributed below.

At the end of the corridor is the relaxation area, here there are several seats, both along the glass wall and more lounge-like. Many power outlets and charging points where one can place one's electronic devices.

There is also a small, more secluded area with seats divided by partitions that isolate the passenger seeking a quieter accommodation from the chaos of the "open space" room.

As you can see from the photos, the lounge was anything but crowded during my visit.

If you are looking for an area where you don't sleep but work there is.

There are a number of booths to sit in, and open your own office without disturbing or being disturbed by anyone. The only flaw is the lack of doors to completely isolate yourself from the lounge.

Food & Beverage

Opposite the lounging area is the dining room, which houses both the self-service area and the area where chefs prepare express dishes, based on the daily menu displayed on the counter.

Unmissable beverage islands, hot and cold, beer and carbonated beverage tappers and more.

Showers

Showers are shared for guests in both lounges, although Senator passengers have priority in the queue over others. The entrance is a small lounge opposite the reception area.

The environment is beautiful and elegant, the products offered are quality, and the towels are terrycloth and of the same quality as those found in the bathrooms of Hilton or Marriott hotels.

In conclusion

This is a lady lounge, probably the best in the Lufthansa group, competes only with that of Brussels, but here we are definitely on another level compared to the Senators in Frankfurt, Munich, and light years better compared to what offers Austrian in Vienna.

The verdict
In a lounge I look for quiet, power outlets, good food, lots of light. Here I found (food aside) everything, in the world only the Skyclub in Los Angeles compares as a view to this lounge. If I appreciated Whiskey I probably would have given the lounge an extra point.
