Virgin Atlantic discounts by 20% (almost) all award tickets

Virgin Atlantic has launched a new promotion that saves 20% of points on redemptions for most routes operated by the airline. This offer is valid for bookings made by Jan. 31, to fly through the end of the year

The routes on offer

The promotion includes discounts of 20% on award tickets in economy, premium economy and Upper Class (business class) for all destinations except international airports Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (BOM) of Mumbai, Murtala Muhammed (LOS) in Nigeria and Ben Gurion (TLV) in Israel.

Although this offer Is not as generous as that of 2022, which offered a discount of 50% on the required points, the new promotion guarantees a 20% discount on all award tickets redeemed in all classes of service without blackout restrictions for nearly 12 months.

Virgin Atlantic operates from London Heathrow, where his clubhouse is one of the best lounges in the world and one of the least easy to visit, to several destinations in the United States, including Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), Boston Logan (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK), Las Vegas (LAS), Orlando (MCO), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), Tampa (TPA), and Washington, DC's Dulles (IAD). Routes also include connections from New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Orlando to Manchester Airport (MAN), as well as a direct flight from Orlando to Edinburgh Airport (EDI).

Discounts apply to flights in any direction and in any cabin with award availability, including upgrades. The discount, as always, applies only and exclusively to flights operated by VS and not those of partner airlines.

The Virgin Atlantic fleet

The company founded by Richard Branson has only wide-body aircraft; during the covid it retired its B747s and now flies A330s (300 and 900neo), 787/9s, and A350/1000s.

The flagship is the larger version of the A350, the one that flies from London primarily to the U.S. West Coast (Los Angeles and San Francisco) and New York.

The older generation cabins are those found aboard Dreamliners and the (few) A330/300s still in service and used primarily for destinations to the East and the Caribbean.

Few points, but lots of taxes

Being a Skyteam carrier, and one of the few with a partnership agreement with ITA Airways, it is also possible to book a ticket from Italy via London Heathrow.

For example flying a/r from Linate to the US costs 27K Flying Club points plus about 372€ in taxes and surcharges.

If you aim instead to fly on the beautiful Upper Class, please avoid like the plague the flights operated with the old A330s and Dreamliners, it is possible to fly from London to New York for as low as 38k points plus taxes.
