Among the (many) things that Italian Amex customers envy over their American counterparts (and others) are the Centurion Lounge scattered around the world; outside the American continent there are very few, in Europe there are two - although only the London Heathrow one is a real Centurion - In Asia there is only one (because the one in New Delhi should not exist or should be called something else) and then there are those in Australia, but in this case it is just a rebrand of lounges that were already part of the Amex network under another name.

Well, in anticipation of a Centurion Lounge. arrives in the beautiful country as well, we just have to travel e feel envy.

Yes, envy, especially toward all the passengers who pass through theAtlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Yesterday, February 14, 2024, in the airport of Atlanta - the busiest in the world as well as Delta's main hub - has finally opened its doors the largest lounge in the Centurion network.

There is certainly no shortage of space: with almost 5 thousand square meters in width (almost double compared to that of JFK) the Centurion Lounge in Atlanta offers, among many other things, several outdoor terraces And breathtaking views of the slopes.

"The new Centurion lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will serve travelers at one of the busiest airports for our cardholders", stated Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel. "It offers amenities appreciated by travelers, such as outdoor terraces, and plenty of space to relax, as well as regional components featured in all menus and design, which guests will remember long after their trip".

The design and spaces of the lounge

One only has to look at a few photographs to realize that this new Centurion Lounge plays in a different league than the others.

The city of Atlanta has historically earned a reputation as "city in the forest" o "green paradise": the design of the lounge draws inspiration from this and, in fact, in the main area there is a 50-year-old olive tree (!) as well as a light sculpture (of nearly 350 square meters) symbolizing the so-called "forest canopy".

In short, a beautiful living room that gives a sense of peace and serenity. But, mind you, this is not the only place where passengers can relax before a flight. As mentioned, in fact, visitors have at their disposal as many as three outdoor terraces.

One, which spans almost the entire perimeter of the lounge, not only has several seats but also enjoys a truly unique views of aircraft and runways.

The other two, however, have no view but still offer some seating: one of these two terraces, in particular, along with the attached rooms, is reserved for Centurion members. If you are a holder of the exclusive "black card," you will be escorted by a lounge attendant to a relaxation room in which you can gobble or work in peace.

Fans of art and design, then, they will be satisfied: throughout the lounge you can admire works commissioned to local artists, including a reinterpretation of the first logo of Amex, the guard dog resting on a trunk.

Food and beverage

In the lounges, ça va sans dire, we eat a lot and well, often even very well. I do believe that in the new Centurion in Atlanta it will be the same.

The chef Deborah VanTrece, owner of several restaurants in Atlanta, will bring to the lounge her own version of the soul food (the traditional cuisine of the African community in the southern United States) using flavors and techniques he discovered and learned during his travels around the world when he was a flight attendant; there will also be an area offering vegan and gluten free options.

"Atlanta has become an interesting melting pot of cultures and cuisines. I am thrilled to partner with American Express to bring to the Centurion Lounge at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport a cuisine that celebrates these traditions, along with the finest Southern ingredients", said the chef Deborah VanTrece. "Travel has inspired my approach as a chef, and I feel fortunate because, through this collaboration, I will be able to share my creative vision of food and hospitality with travelers around the world".

If you are then instead a whiskey enthusiasts, well, you can't fail to drop by the "The Reserve by American Express", the Centurion Network's first whiskey bar. The cocktail menu, curated by award-winning mixologist Jim Meehan, offers 5 special whiskey cocktails as well as a selection of more than 20 American whiskeys. If, however, you want to drink something else, you certainly won't risk dying of thirst: the lounge also has a main bar that offers a selection of 10 wines chosen by the sommelier Anthony Giglio, cellar manager of the Centurion Lounges.

Where Atlanta's Centurion Lounge is located.

Atlanta's new Centurion Lounge is located in the Terminal E, near the gate E11.

At the Atlanta airport, after security checks, all terminals are interconnected so the new Centurion can be reached on foot or via Plane Train, the underground transportation system at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
