In recent months I have written several articles to explain all the news about the Miles & More loyalty program, a total makeover that changed the rules of the game for all status hunters with Lufthansa Group airlines.
In this article:
One of the new and improved features introduced since January 1 was theestablishment of lifetime status, the German frequent flyer was one of the few in the world that did not provide for a lifetime membership, or perhaps it would be fair to write that it did not officially provide for this level, which instead it was being released (manually) only to those who in addition to having accumulated 1M miles and continuously maintained the Senator level for 10 years had also attained at least 60 years of age.
How to obtain lifetime status
The first thing to know are the rules, put in black and white, that from 2024 will allow frequent travelers of LH group airlines to obtain the valuable card without expiration.
Retroactive recognition, this means that all Status Stars points accumulated by Dec. 31, 2023 have been converted into Qualifying Points useful for achieving Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime status. In recent hours, users' profiles have been updated and it is possible to see on the site, or on the app, the outcome of the conversion.
All users who achieved three Status Stars by the end of 2023 received, ex officio, Frequent Traveller Lifetime status.
Did you get your flight cancelled, miss your connection, land late?
You could get up to 600€ compensation per person
As of 2024, the basis for obtaining Lifetime status is the Total sum of all accumulated qualifying points over the years on flights with Lufthansa Group airlines and Miles & More co-emitter partner airlines, this means that flights made with Star Alliance carriers do not compete for lifetime status.
Requirements for obtaining the new Lifetime Miles&More statuses.
There are two lifetime memberships: Frequent Traveller and Senator. The former will require accumulating 30,000 qualifying points, while climbing up to Senator will require 40,000 lifetime points.
In conclusion
Lifetime statuses are recognition for years and years of loyalty, Miles & More, as with regular statuses, is the one that puts the highest stakes on getting this card. I honestly don't see the point of chasing the Frequent Traveller level, instead I am surprised that there is no lifetime HON status.
