It opened on Feb. 16 And since I was passing through Thailand. I did not pass up the chance to try out in (almost) preview the first Moxy from the Thailand and one of the largest in Asia, and this is probably the first online review of this hotel published by a paying guest of this hotel.

For those who don't know Moxy è the sign wanted by Marriott To attract travelers born in the new millennium. Gen Z who like to travel low-cost and are more interested in sociability rather than luxury. The Moxy is just that, basic rooms and a lobby where the energy flows and this is a real Moxy, although it is not yet operational at 100%.

Location

We are in a very central area of Bangkok, near Lumphini Park. On the same street less than a kilometer away are two of the most luxurious hotels in Thailand's capital: the St Regis and the Waldorf Astoria, while for the Intercontinental you have to turn the corner.

The hotel is above a shopping mall (still under completion) and near a mega supermarket/discount, among the largest in the city. The BTS runs 10 minutes from the hotel and the panoramic elevator connects directly with the walkway to the station.

On the opposite side of the street is the huge CentralwOrld, The ninth largest shopping mall in the world.

Reservation

I booked, almost last minute, as soon as I saw that it was open, and after canceling a reservation at another Marriott in town I opted for this one, although the price was not quite Moxy's, but new things are paid for.

What also intrigued me then was the opening promo, I opted for a Deluxe room and not the usual basic room, because for a 30 euro difference I It also offered 5,000 extra Bonvoy points instead of only 1,000. (promo valid per night until the end of May).

The great thing about hotel chains is. allow you to accumulate promotions and bonuses, so between base and bonus points with this stay I took home 2 qualifying nights (1+1 bonus) 6,500 bonus points in addition to the normal bonvoys provided by the reservation and related bonuses due to my status.

Check-in

As is often the case in these hotels on the ground floor there is just a foothold pointing the guest to the elevator to the actual lobby. The lobby is on the 9th floor and as in all the Moxy's I have been to, except one, is incorporated inside the bar counter.

Procedures in a Moxy are always informal, such as the alcoholic popsicle that was offered to me instead of the classic glass of fresh juice. Of course, there was also a "Virgin" version.

In addition to this with a 10-baht coin I was offered to try my luck, special benefit for titanium members and I won a cute white teddy bear with Moxy bandana, which will end up in my daughter's collection.

Last but not least, as usual, I opted for extra points as a welcome gift and not with credit or drinks.

The room

As mentioned. I opted for a deluxe room, which if we were in more renowned signs would be a suite, but here we are in a no-frills hotel. The attendant explained to me that they have one per floor, and I got the one in the middle of the tower, on the 16th.

Two separate rooms and one room with a killer view. In the daytime it's beautiful, but at night it's wow.

Sofa with mega screen and work corner with small table and chairs, in front of the bar area.

In the room the classic Queen bed, mega screen and skyline view window.

Bathroom with small closet, which is very rare in a Moxy, and shower. Everything very basic and in line with other hotels in this family.

Moxy tune

The energy and life of this hotel flows on the 9th floor. Here in addition to the reception bar is all the rest of the common areas.

Definitely interesting is the terrace, where I imagine sooner or later the theme parties will also start. This is Thailand, and when it's not raining there's humidity that kills you or, at best, heat that takes your breath away.

Therefore, the indoor part is just as beautiful and important for a hotel of over 500 rooms.

Fortunately, breakfast is not one of the things these hotels are renowned for, otherwise I have no idea where they could put all the guests.

On the opposite side of the restaurant area is the entertainment area. Pool table, air field hockey and colorful sofas.

Post-industrial design with elements designed only for instagram, such as the loft staircase that leads nowhere.

Services

The Moxy are this essential, so it offers virtually nothing else.

The gym is tiny, especially considering that there could potentially be more than 1,000 guests and that, given the heat, people who want to keep fit use the gyms in these hotels.

Food & Beverage

The rooftop will open in a few months, there is no bar on the terrace because service is provided by the main one. I never have breakfast in these hotels for cost/quality reasons And this time I did not change my habits.

On the ground floor of the Market is a Starbucks, a KFC and several other local Where to eat and spend little, willingly even local. Of course no points will be made, but for a handful of baths I can also do it.

In conclusion

Had the pool, like the Aloft or the Four Points not far away, Would be really perfect. I believe (and I hope) that once the novelty passes, the price will come down, because compared to other facilities it definitely offers something less.

The location is perfect for everyone, even first-time visitors to the city and look for a central but not too central place in the messy area of Sukhumvit Road.

The verdict
I have no idea when the rooftop will be there if it will change my rating, however, the biggest lack is definitely the pool, even a small one would have given at least half a point more in the final rating.
